You long timers will remember that a few years back I made a cement bird bath lined with stone mosaic, featuring some red and green jasper stones. I assume it's the red jasper that attracts them but the cardinals bathe in this bird bath almost every day. They can see into my window though and they usually fly if I pick up the camera. So it has been all these years before I caught a decent photo of my male cardinal bathing. I am so thrilled...I know, it's a silly Insta but it's a big deal to me. :-)

For those who aren't long time members or who just don't recall, this is what it looks like from a bird's eye view:

He's enjoying some splish splash in a beautiful bowl! peachfront, we have cardinals that return every year since I feed them and provide water. I noticed that the male usually feeds the fledglings, and wondered if you have seen this?

I have had as many as three successful nests in a year. This is southeast Louisiana so we do have a long season. It's amazing the way they work together.

A coonass friend of mine was all freaked out one day when we saw a "redbird" out on a bayou. I was trying to figure out what he was looking at because all I could see was a cardinal and nothing to get excited about. Turns out that LA doesn't have 10,000 cardinals per mile. Here they are everywhere just like the buzzards in a tux.

Have tons of them here. Love them, but when they bumble into my live trap I use for house sparrow removal they are kind of a pain because they really bite hard when o remove them from the trap for release. Dern redbirds hang onto your fingers like a lobster even when you turn loose of them.....Mel

Buzzards in a Tux = perfect metaphor for food scavenging bald eagles.
