Hi Jan As you can see I doubled up the discs on the dremel. I did use the wore out groover bit on the Gryphon to start a faint imprint. Something to follow. (The Gryphon makes a good quick straight groove). But being that the bit as very little grit— it just doesn’t penetrate the stone. Then I just zippittey doo dahed the rest of the groove with the dremel. I held the stones in the vice. The flats came out well. Can’t see much sunlight through the heart halves when held together. Plus they get that sticky magnetic feel when slightly damped and rubbed together. I like that. It will be a good solid joint. So its ready to be epoxied together. The sides are fairly flat. Good enough to lay flat for the epoxing. I’m just showing this side The other side -I think-is going to be the front of the heart. It mostly all red. No quartz like the back side. Plus it as a spider web pattern that I’m trying align. Jan your so good about being inquisitive! With all the members. take care Ed

I found this interesting object on my break strolling through the barrio. I’m not sure what its? Perhaps a sea-shell? Or maybe its man-made object? A piece of pottery ? Anyway the subtle pastel colors really caught my eye! any guesses?

interesting idea to put an ad on Craigslist. you do think out of the box... keep us posted, it will be interesting to hear what sort of response you get (offers to buy your product with a check made out for twice as much from overseas? you keep the excess as a compliment for doing the banking... )

Mohs it looks to me like you could saw the rock and then a 100 grit flat diamond lap should level it in a heart beat. You are a genius with these hearts so maybe I don't understand the leveling problem or process? I couldn't do your hearts, I just don't have the skills. I would love to see one made from Tiger Eye and Boulder Opal. Good hearting Mohs!

I haven’t done a boulder opal heart yet. Its funny because for the last few season I have been wanting to. I keep looking for boulder opal at rock shows and have never found a piece in my price range. Ha Ha ! But I love working tiger eye. It really lends itself to making great rock’n hearts because the 2 halves can usually go seamlessly together. This is one I made a few years ago. Its from 2 different pieces of rock. I gave it to my Mom for Mother Day. Thanks orrum!

That happens ! I have a long story about a personal experience --about 10 years ago. Too long for me to write up--- but if I find it in my typed up archives--- I'll post it if there is an interest.... mostly
