I *finally* finished my first tumble. I read a bit on here, dived in and kinda went with what I discovered and adjusted. I'm bad and didn't take very good notes as I was getting impatient and frustrated. (I know, I know, "patience grasshopper...") Started them a few days after Christmas (I got a tumbler as a gift-I guess it helps when you leave The Rock Shed's website open on your other half's ipad 'by accident' ) yes, everything was tumbled in the same load-so to speak, of course I added and took away rocks that I thought were ready and held others back that needed to be re-run through certain stages. I know not totally perfect, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Bots: some of my bots turned out with this matte finish, should they go back into polish for a little longer or go through another 600 grit? Labradorite: quite happy and surprised with this, it doesn't have much pitting. Jasper/puddingstone (i think?) Montana Moss Agate- thanks catmandewe thanks for looking!

Those look pretty good! If you've been working on them since Christmas, you've had more patience than most new tumblers. I'm assuming your doing them completely in a rotary tumbler. If so, I can't give you much advice because I just finished my first batch using just a rotary. I bought a vibe before my first rotary batch was finished, so now of my experience is with that.

Not bad for a first batch! I like those bots but I always have a soft spot for tumbled Montana agates.

Nice job on your first batch. I'd probably just throw those bots in with the next bunch of 600 I was running and then go on from there, but that's just me and I'm usually wrong.

Looking good! I'm scared to see what my first batch is gonna look like. Currently on stage 2 in a rotary.

looks good to me! I'm only working on my 3rd tumble and still need to find the shine. May have it this time, getting close. Keep the photos and tumbles coming!

Thanks for the kind words everybody! Jugglerguy , yes this is completely in the rotary...I want to see if I like it before investing in a vibe...but on the other hand I sort of like testing my patience. Currently have mostly Montanas and other bots in there right now. Cob , I royally messed up on my first batch-I pulled them out of stage 2 or 3 after a borax cycle and the bots had chips in them (big chunks, I almost cried...plastic pellets or ceramics are your friend), so I had to start all over from stage one again. I've learned: 'don't be afraid to make mistakes, you aren't learning if you don't make any'

Hey rockit nice batch! Surprises me how nicely that piece of Lab turned out being mixed with agate. You must have "the touch". Looking forward to more.

I'm not a tumbler, but those look good to me. I like matte…. and shiny.

I agree with Nowyo's suggestion: The bots will take a great shine in the rotary if you maybe back up a step or two and try again. Great results for a first tumble. Especially the labradorite.

Very nice job for your first batch, keep'em rolling & keep notes on what you're doing & you'll be dialed in to just where you want it!
