Finally I have some decent real cabs to wrap, thanks to drocknut! She had some that she wasn't going to do anything with and sent them to me and I am so thankful that she did that. I'd like to present one of her cabs, a nice rose quartz. My new wire came and I have decided to use silver filled wire as my practice wire, or my main wire until I get really good. Plus, since I need to be price conscious, the silver filled is more affordable than sterling, while still being considered silver (has way more silver than the Parawire silver plated). I wanted to save some money to also buy a little bit of gold filled wire, too. This will be a birthday gift for my mother in law. Her name is Pat, so I curved the wire into a capital letter 'P' in script. Yuck, there's a dog hair next to the rose quartz. One thing I noticed is that my pliers made slight marks on the wire, but yet they had been filed down and freshly wrapped in masking tape. Next is an agate (another from drocknut) done in gold filled wire. Finally - a good cab and good wire! I used the gold because gold goes so nicely with brown and well, I was just too excited to use the gold. So I did. And I did this one after a few glasses of wine.. So a big thank you to drocknut! There is another brown agate that my daughter wants me to wrap and to put a 'K' at the top, (her name is Kristina). So that's my next wrap. Thanks for looking!

Yay! for drocknut! The people on this board are always ready to help each other out. Love your wraps and the letter P! Don't be too concernd about the little imperfections that show up in very close up pictures. No one will see them in person. We are all our own worse critics.

Those are both great. Nice to see you transition easily to calibrated cabs.

Beautiful work Kathy. They are both top notch. I'm glad you could make use of the cabs and I was more than happy to help. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see the K wrap. As rockjunkie said, don't worry about the small imperfections, they are not that noticeable. I have found that the silver filled wire tends to be easy to mark with pliers at least from my experience with it. If you're anything like me I know you'll almost always see some little imperfection in your wraps so just tell yourself that handmade is never perfect and that's what makes it unique and special.

Thank you to you all! It was a pleasure to wrap those cabs, Diane! I find it very very easy to wrap real cabs and my time spend on them has literally been cut in half. More than half if I take away the time spent thinking of what design to do. Compared to that gold-color Parawire which I swear was not at all dead soft but super hard, the gold filled wire from Rio flows into the curves like silk. Amazing what good wire and good cabs will do! I have 2 more cabs going, almost ready.
