I prefer Grand Lake, where my boat is. I had the chance to water ski in Florida once, but I was too chicken to get in the water. The scariest thing in the lake that I ski on is probably a pike. We did remove a decent sized snapping turtle from in front of the cottage once, but that was unusual. We use crayfish for jewelry.

Nice earring! Never know, it may become the next trend, Jugglerguy. I do not blame you for being scared about skiing in Floridian waters.

I used to wade fish 200-300 feet out at Lake George, home of some of the biggest. I slowed down on that, lest my 2 cousins wade with me. 3 to 1 odds makes it OK. One August I had a 12 footer(one inch between the eyes=one foot of length) swim within 50 feet of me, raise his tail, slap the water and then dive. That was the end of the wade fishing career. Never had a gator show any aggression till that day. August is breeding season and they get territorial. He was probably just warning me-or was he? I don't want to die the way a gator kills you. There had been 2 deaths and two attacks yielding serious injuries within a 4 year period at this unpopulated location(within 10 miles). But beware, shark attacks much more common.

Speaking of water-skiing a friend told me about teaching his kids the sport when he worked in Suriname. He bragged that they "got up" the first time they tried. "Wow," I said, "that's amazing." "No problem," he said. "Piranhas."
He also had a snakeskin mounted across an archway in his living room. The thing was a good 8 or 9-feet long. He said he and a co-worker were driving back to base camp and saw the big constrictor crossing the road. His co-worker decided it would be fun to capture it but the "capturing" went the other way around. Unable to disengage the snake which had wrapped around the co-worker's body, he pushed the victim, snake and all, back into the car and raced back to camp. It took several men to overpower the snake and save its intended victim. He had photographs to prove the tale.
It reminded me of the late, great Shel Silverstein's verse" "I'm being swallered by a boa constrictor -- and I don't like it at all!"

Burmese pythons surprised me when I saw videos of them tangling with alligators. Probably no match for a big gator, but a 4 foot alligator is lightning fast. Treacherous to catch on flat ground without getting bit. Those snakes can make small work out of a feisty little gator. I am sure they use the element of surprise, but it should still be respected. Piranhas, that is cold. Poor child. Very motivational. Old alligator just minding his own business and check out the attitude of this Burmese Python. Snake basically a bully.

I'm surprised the gator didn't take the snake's head off with that first bite. Quite a battle!
As for the piranhas and kids, apparently water skiing in piranha areas was quite common according to my friend. But as you say, very motivational.
