Hi!
Anyone here, especially you fellow Canadians, know of any distributors of the Ameritool Universal 8" Complete in Canada?
Not evilbay though.
I know I can get it at JS Gems (which is highly recommended in the numerous threads I read here) but the shipping to Canada will probably be a deterrent. Let alone the exchange rate which is about 25 to 30% at the moment.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
James

That's a lot like looking for a needle in a haystack. Had to go the Ebay way, but when the dollar was par.

Yeah, searched on Google but no luck. Got a lot of results but most of them, that had Ameritool and lapidary in the title words, were links to pages selling industrial mining equipment. Huge crushers, etc... Don't think I am at that stage yet. LOL!

I buy a lot of supplies from him and he does sell Ameritool with or without the extras-disks if you ask him. His prices seem to be pretty good and with shipping. actually I just checked and he does have free shipping on his High tec diamonds. www.ebay.ca/usr/ronsrocks?_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2754

Thanks! I have seen those All-U-Need ones come up in my Google search results. Except for the water drip cups/placement they seem to have identical specs to the Ameritool one. Are they the same make or a copy one way or the other? Any differences?

I've used both and there is NO difference when cutting between the two of them, still using my 10 year old Hi tech. The only thing I noticed was the slurry holding tank on the Ameritool which is larger.

Shipping from US about $65. Priority Mail International. That's not bad. Will think about it and let you know. Will only be next month though. Have to ask some stupid questions first too. LOL!
Thanks,
James

As far as your question about comparing Hi Tech to Ameritool they are very similar. I heard the owner of Hi Tech passed company on to his son. Son sold the company in a divorce. Son's sister and her husband opened Ameritool. The son still does shows for them and is very involved with Ameritool. The next owner of Hi Tech got a terrible reputation for customer service. They sold the company about two years ago to Reentel that makes the Cab King units and imports many of the Chinese wheels and blades everyone sells. Their customer service is terrific and they keep the still made in USA Hi Tech units in stock and ready to ship. Ameritool also has wonderful customer service but sometimes run out of stock.

Hi there, yes John at JS Gems is great, here's a little know site alot of Canadians are not aware of, which is awesum for USA orders. Myusaddress.ca It's great as the lower 48 states have terrific shipping rates for themselves but to get it to Canada we pay dearly. I have saved myself and our club $100's in shipping charges, check it out, you will not be disappointed. You get an address in NY, where they then forward it to you, via the same courier, their customs fees are discounted, because of their volumes plus their Canadian shipping charges are discounted as well. If you place your order from John and have it sent to NY and then to your home, you should save at least 30-50% when you're done. Check it out nothing to loose and everything to gain and no I have no affiliation with the site, just another rockhounder who has to pay through the nose to get things to Saskatchewan. Rock on!

I bought my Ameritool equipment from www.ameritool-inc.com/store/index.cfm/category/1/lapidary-machines.cfm and have never had insane shipping charges. I find that requesting the US Postal Service, rather than a business like UPS makes a HUGE difference when it comes to shipping. The USPS and Canada Post have agreements, which means that customs, etc. aren't such a hassle. Use UPS or another shipping company and there are usually some nasty surprises. The folks at Ameritool have always been amazing to work with. I never found a reliable Canadian supplier, so if you do, I'd love to hear about it! I hope you got what you were looking for!
