After a longer than normal winter, the weather was fair enough this weekend for rock hounding at Partridge Island. Actually, the finds were so good on Saturday that I had to go back on Sunday. On Saturday, I found a small crust of Amethyst on Basalt matrix under the edge of the melting ice. Deja vu … On Sunday, I found a small crust of Amethyst on Basalt matrix under the edge of the melting ice. The crystals are underdeveloped and the saturation is faint. The orange that appears to be iron staining is orange Stilbite.

I also found a bruised point of honey Calcite. This crystal has a little residual hand cream on it to hide some of the crust.

I need to find a non-destructive way to clean this piece of golden Stilbite and clear/white Analcime on pink Heulandite.

I also found a single micro-crystal of Stilbite. I wasn’t sure whether to orient this crystal pointing up, or pointing down. Neither is good.

A piece of radiating crystals of golden Stilbite hat filled in a small Basalt vug.
