I spent the past 2 weeks outdoors in the woods and on the beach. Collected a few intesting things. Unakites, Epidote, breccias, a couple complex weirdos and the big green rock. The color is too yellow in this photo, it is deep dark Kelly green, with lighter areas in places. It seems to have a semi conchoidal fracture, is very dense and solid maybe 2.5 SG. I will try to polish a window soon. Can't decide if the light areas are part of the rock's makeup or places where other things have impacted it and broken the surface just a little, leaving those marks. Anybody recognize it ? I think rattlehead posted something similar a while ago, only his didn't have the lighter colored spots. Really, I have become much more selective as far as bringing home rocks, but you'd never know it to look at all the things in this photo!

thanks, after working with it on the moto tool and looking at it through my magnifier, I think it is microgranite (aphanitic) which has been stained by some mineral (copper, iron, nickel or a combination will make a rock green) and the lighter areas are simply places where the rock is a bit denser and did not pick up the stain as well. It is about to become suiseki.

I like your collection. The green will be fun to see after a cab or slab is polished up. The stuff in the background is not to be forgotten either! I love what you found.

Always fun to collect, bring home, wash, and examine., even if some of them end up outside.
