Got stuck in downtown Crawford Nebraska in caliche/gumbo mud in the middle of a city street! Was driving on a dirt back street, lots of towns out there have dirt streets. Anyway was driving along and thought the GPS thingy was wrong so I stopped right in the middle of the street to consult the Rand McNally map and suddenly the passenger side of the truck went down to the frame!!! Got out to look and the road on that side was like walking on shifting pudding. A cowboy came by in his truck heading to a branding and stopped and pulled me out! He said he would have to pull me out backwards, I asked why and found out everybody in town knew that side of the road was caliche. You were supposed to get over and go fast through that area. Just my luck, a whole town of dirt roads and I so in the only bog! His name was Sam, thank ye Lord for cowboys named Sam!!!

Bill, leave it to you to find slime pits! Hooray for Cowboy Sam!
James, you probably enjoy tracking that hot red mess all over the place, lol.

Me plus another laborer and an operator set the foul ball posts at this baseball complex. They had red clay trucked in from Georgia. It looked much brigher orange when I was there. I am a big fan of circle track dirt racing and the tracks with that Georgia clay look insane. Where I live the ground has clay like you mentioned but it is not the cool looking orange just gray.

I see clay experience is a part of life in other lands. Clay cowboys and construction masters. Glad orrum and bhiatt have had clay enter their life. May the clay make their day.

also back in 2010 I was working with guardrail crew. We were taking out old guardrail which had been there 30 years. The ground was clay. When they pulled the I beams out of the ground the steel still looked brand new. Also the old 30 year old steel in my opinion was better than the brand new I beams they re installed. Wasted money if you ask me. Did miles of it just east of St Louis along interstate 55-70.

I always regretted not marrying a mud wrestling champion. "Saturday I drove to East Dublin to witness something that only the south could spawn, the Redneck Games. The Redneck games were started in East Dublin in 1996 while the Olympics were in Atlanta. Its basically a giant gathering of blue-blood rednecks, good ol’ boys, white trash, and those who come to watch. There are games like the mud pit belly-flop contest, the arm-pit serenade, seed spitting contest, bobbing for pigs feet, well you get the idea."

Golden Isle Speedway is in Georgia and that is where the dirt track late models start their season off at. They bring these brand new high dollar cars in and that Georgia clay practically welds itself onto everything on the car.

Drive over it many times till it is packed. Rarely does a clay dam leak. Never knew it preserves iron. probably keeps the oxygen sealed out to prevent oxidation. My neighbors plow their fields with 36 and 42 inch deep sub soiled plows to increase soil drainage. Takes a serious tractor to pull those plows.

It is a big past time. big tires on the outside, little ones on the inside. Gobs of HP.

I don't know a whole lot about if clay preserves iron or not, I would of thought maybe some pitting or something in the iron after 30 years of being in the ground. None at all.

The ability to seal off oxygen and if clay had a neutral ph also could stop rust Brad. Old dirt bikes covered in mud sitting in a barn are often with fine paint jobs after washing them. Even keeps the sun from fading the paint. good excuse to never wash your car

I am sure they had impacted clay in every orifice gingerkid. Cotton and red clay do not get along. I think that stuff can stain plate glass. As boys we used to slide down giant clay slopes in a deep erosion gully back in the woods. Mom would kill us. Worth the whippin.
