Can a man have a maiden voyage...I suppose if he was the right kind of feller...anyway, this is my first attempt at posting a picture. A couple of cabs from local unnamed (AFAIK) material. I think the white cloudy one may be some form of quartzite - it's hard and feels kind of crunchy - or squeaky - on the grinding wheels. Hard stuff though. The green one, I don't know. There's lots of similar material in the Phoenix area, but most of it is porous and won't take a decent polish. This one, however, worked up okay. On to the pics, wish me luck, posting a link from Photo Bucket: ![](http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv246/rolszewski_2009/IMG_1137.jpg)

Ooops...a little larger image than intended! This one's a little bit more reasonable sized...I hope. The brownish one I call Table Mesa jasper, the green one is a quartzite w/ epidote (I think). ![](http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv246/rolszewski_2009/3e758f02-f374-4801-bf42-a1d1e218385d.jpg)

Thanks, folks! I was too nervous about posting some pictures, I appreciate the positive feedback! I did learn that posting pictures takes time and effort - my admiration for those that share a lot of their work has increased greatly!
pghram, that white material is a one-off, in that I've only ever found 1 stone, probably about a 3-pounder, in the Gila river bed, so it could have originated from anywhere in a very large area. It kind of looks like it ought to be translucent, but it's completely opaque. The rock in its raw state is not immediately interesting, but I noticed that it had lots of superficial little fingernail divots, such as you see often in Montana agates, so I figured it would be worth taking home.

Yup, I've got a two-wheel (8" wheels) grinder, a couple of saws (6" and 10"), a tumbler, and buckets and buckets of rocks! And most importantly, an understanding wife!
Haven't been to the Glendale Center in a couple of years, since they cut back hours in order to fund the local hockey team! Now only the retired folks can go.
And thank you for the kind words!

Hi Andrea The Center had a nice trim saw, 10" saw and what appeared to be at least 14" saw. So I know they can slab a pretty good chunk of rock
Not sure what the personnel is right now ? but they were always friendly in the past
if it easy for you to get there then they are a really are worth checking into a well equip-ted shop at 1.00 an hour...

Andrea,
Last time I was there they had an 18" slab saw. They were charging $1 per cut, which is very reasonable, don't know if that rate still applies, however. Ray was very good about cutting rocks for people, you could just drop it off and come back and pick up the remaining stone and the slabs later. Unfortunately, Ray has passed on; I'm not sure of the current status of things...just lettin' ya know how it used to be!

I don't know if we ever met - I've been wracking the rubber sieve that is my brain, but it's not coming up with an Ed...I was in on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Saturday mornings. Yes, Ray was the monitor most times when I was in there - he later became "President" of the "club". I visited him about a year ago when he was in hospice, but nobody told me exactly when he passed on. I shouldn't assume such things, but at the time he was suffering from terminal cancer, and wasn't expected to live much longer.
