Hmmmmm.... you sound as if you think you painted yourself into a corner.... I don't think you have, though. How about if the backplate were a little wider where the wires come around the sides and you solder the wires down there- even leaving some out of solder to make a curl or something decorative?? Did that make sense? Something like that might help with your problem. Great idea, BTW

Interesting --- having a bezel and backplate, AND wire wrap!
How about burnishing the bezel before you do the wire wrapping?
You could solder the wire to the backplate from the backside. Solder could be every cm or so, or more as @rockhunquie suggested.
What is the blue stone?
Good luck with it! I think you will do well. Show us when they are finished.

I made the bezel cups and then soldered the wire wrap around the bezel cup. now I have to figure out how I'm going to bezel set the stone...the wire wrap outside didn't leave me a lot of room to work with for bezeling. then, assuming I manage to bezel set the stone securely...I have to figure out how to polish it. The pictures are a bit washed out...the stone is Tiffany stone that I had to re-cut from larger cabochons for earrings and a ring. there's another stone that I won't re-cut for the pendant. re-cutting the stones was not a fun task either, especially Tiffany stone with lots of voids and pits.

Solder prongs around the bezel and use them to bend over and grip the stone. Put ovals of plastic cut from butter lids to raise the stone up to the bezel level and then work the prongs over. I would use four half moon shaped prongs soldered at one oclock, 5 oclock, 7 oclock and then 12 oclock.

Welp, this set turned out amazing, but you'll never know because I forgot to take pictures of it before the client picked it up and took it all home! Tiffany stone cabs re-cut into earrings and ring stones, bezel set and then wire wrapped in my usual style and everything soldered together, the wire wrap to the bezels. The biggest pain in the butt, but totally worth it commission I've had yet. there was a pendant too. best photo I could find LOL! Maybe I'll see them walking around some day and get another chance...
