Laura and I met up with a pair of rockhounds from a nearby town and headed to the beach last Saturday. Our launch point was at Wassons Bluff which is more famous for its dinosaur fossils than its agates and jaspers. We had to hop over a little boot wash near Two Islands to get to where we were going. Five Islands, or at least a few of them, are visible off in the distance. I guess am I a little more enthusiastic than the rest. I’m usually about a half mile ahead of the group waiting for them to catch up. At least this way I get humans for scale in some of my photos. The last photo is McKay Head which is today’s collecting location. You can see where the red sandstone cliffs turn to black basalt. The basalt here is full of amygdules (vugs) that later filled with quartz, chalcedony, agate, and jasper. The four of us all had good finds this time out, and we met two local collectors who gave us a fee tips and tricks to find flame agate on our next trip out. Specimen photos will follow in a later post. Darryl.

Great pictures, Darryl. Can you walk out to that island on the second picture? It's hard to tell from the photo.
I was going to take pictures of my little outing yesterday, but I forgot the camera!

Jugglerguy - You can in fact walk out to Two Islands at low tide after a new moon, or a full moon. There is a 2 hour crossing window under those conditions. if you get stranded on the island by an incoming tide, you have to wait 12 hours for your next crossing opportunity.
