stardiamondWhat did you do to get your clutch problems fixed. I think I have the same saw you do so I am interested in your fix. Your slabs look awesome. I particularly like the fortification agate in the first photo. My saw arrived last week and I've been really happy with it so far. I posted some photos of the slabs I cut in the first week. It's been a lot of fun to slab rocks myself. Later Brent

My clutch was probably ok. For some reason, the set screw came loose. I tightened it and adjusted the clutch back to where it was before or in a place where it worked ok. I only started using the saw and am still figuring it out.

stardiamondMy saw quit feeding the rock yesterday. I checked the set screw which was tight. I adjusted the clutch nut about 1/4 turn and it's working like new again. Mine came with the Covington 301 blade. I've heard bad things about the Covington blades but so far it's working great. I'm having a great time slabbing. My 12 lb tumbler is missing my attention though. I need to get it going again to feed the 2 pound tumbler I use for polishing. I I just got mine a week ago so I'm definitely a slabbing beginner too. Thanks for the tip about the set screw. I learned a lot about that saw today. Later Brent

My wife bought me the saw over 7 years ago. I've had very little free time and whatever time I had I used it for cabbing. I retired last October and now I have lots of time. My first cuts were about two weeks ago, so I'm pretty much in the place you are in. The blade that came with my saw was an American made MK 301 which is suppose to be very good and not made anymore. I've called Covington support 3 times since I started. First time the said the blade needed to be dressed and I got some dressing sticks from them. I then loosened the clutch and when the problem wasn't resolved, they told me about the set screw. I've adjusted the clutch once quarter turn to the right after getting it back to the original setting. The way they had me check the set screw was to hold the blade still and rotate the pulley (obviously with the power off). The symptom would be that the saw would feed for a while and then the blade would stop turning
I chose the saw because it seemed to be the best option available for new saws. I don't care for the feed very much, it seems flakey. A couple times I've taken off the alligator clip and put it back on and the saw would start cutting. I still haven't got the auto shut off working and the diagram doesn't match what I have on the saw. It's not that big a deal and I suppose I'll call Covington again
