This is the first cab I've made from some material we found last year in Nevada. I called it Lavic on steroids in this trip report which was accurate because of the size of rocks we were found, but now that I'm working with it I can see that it's a lot more silicified than Lavic material - very hard and takes a wonderful shine. Because of the size of the pieces and the fact that it was float on a steep hill that people wouldn't normally be stupid enough to explore I believe it to be a virgin collecting area. I gave a piece to @shotgunner last year - I don't know if he ever whacked it open or not. The reason I started tinkering with it is if the weather cooperates we are going back up this weekend to see if we can re-find the location again.

Gorgeous steroidal Lavic cab, Tommy! I love the red in it. The beautiful patterns in it remind me of Yowah opal. Good luck this weekend, (safe) happy trails, and hope you locate the area where the material is found. Will Charley lead the way?

Glad you are selling windows employment is good even though it interferes with the fun stuff. I gave you this one from Nevada the day we drove down and picked up the saw from Tim. The Cady's rock was this year at Quartzsite.

That is beautiful stuff. Tommy is it really purple? I think the purple is just the camera/eye getting tricked by the blue/white in the vicinity of red.

Cool I call ya when I hit Ca. Gonna go visit a Modoc indian flint knapper that lives on the beach, can't think of the name right now. He is a master and makes a lot of Gem Points. They are shiny like our cabs from knapping tho. I see you buddy. I take you to some cool places around Q too.

Tommy, I love it! It's like a cross between Yohwah Opal & Stone Canyon Jasper. That chunk looks pretty sweet too. Lynn

You forgot about having the worlds coolest rock-hounding dog. He led us right back to the exact spot where we found this material and showed us the motherlode outcrop which is quite a miracle considering he wasn't even born last time we were there ... He's got a nose for agates and jaspers.
