First time doing this shape and really any cab with obsidian. I have a frosted spot on each one I'll have to take back down (this will be the second time redoing it after polishing). Shape isn't perfect but not too terribly bad either(in my opinion). ANY TIPS WILL BE APPRECIATED. I can see how curves can be a PITA.

Shiny!!! Do you have a dremel or Foredom, broseph82? You could try using one to reach the inside areas.

If you have any scrap pieces of obsidian, maybe you could experiment on it to figure out the grits, broseph82??

I've had to figure out so much in terms if lapidary that it makes my brain hurt sometimes. I don't even want to mess with the dremel. Ha. I like the bigger machinery.

What I have so far. Calling it a night on this thing. And yes I wear gloves. Haters gonna hate. ***The rough used for these pieces was from Tony for anyone who's curious.

that heart looks awesome. you have done good so far. I would be tossing that in the vibe tumbler just like it is right now and it would come out like polished glass front, back and sides. It looks big. Is it for a project or just a cool display piece?
finish it up on your wheels and if you are not 100 percent happy its never to late to toss it in a vibe tumbler.

that heart looks awesome. I would be tossing that in the vibe tumbler just like it is right now. It looks big. Is it for a project or just a cool display piece? Chuck Thank you. It was a template that my wife gave me from her scrap booking room. Never have done a heart nor one this big. I'm stepping outside the box and doing stuff I know will get better with practice. I really want to do a star next. I'm afraid I'll screw it up in the vibe. The last batch of preforms got all messed up (well the softer ones did). It may have been user error (but for now let's blame the vibe). Also, I haven't been able to get the wet awesomeness on obsidian yet like you others have. I have however put an awesome shine on some obsidian using the wheels (as the petals in the first post show). Wife has claimed this big boy. I'll post again once it's finished. True that about the tumbler after the wheels.

Did you start with a normal 1/4" thick slab or did you go thicker since it is so big? I have a batch in the loto vibe right now that has 7 or 8 obsidian cabs mixed in with apache tears and ceramics for filler. I'll have pictures in a few days.

Chuck I'll have to measure how thick tomorrow, but probably around 1/4" thick. Not sure though.
