I had contacted a sphere cutter Jim M who gave me the address of this site as a place with sphere cutters. I have several nice pieces from the Long Lake Zinc Mine at Parham Ontario. This site is now closed. I am looking for someone to cut spheres on a share basis from this material. It is outstanding fluorescent material. I have pieces from 4" size up to almost a foot. The material is largely calcite so not too hard. Please let me know if interested.

Jim M probably is rattlehead. He makes great spheres, but last I knew his large machine was broken.

Unfortunately my 10" saw was barely able to cut the 3.5" diameter core preform and my 18" saw is not working yet so I would not be able to make a 4" sphere unless the rock is already pretty close to spherical. If it is close to spherical, I can just grind it down with my supergrinder. I know Scott a.k.a. Shotgunner has a big saw and can makes spheres.

Yes I live in Grand Rapids, the site would not let me use my name, and I cut a lot of Petoskey Stone so I used that. I am looking for someonw willing to cut on a share basis. I know fluorescent spheres are a sub set of the hobby. I have done the Franklin Fall show a few times and have seen many outstanding ones. I probably have enough material for 30 spheres. Parham material's red color is a film on the surface so the color of spheres would be yellow stripes with aragonite very bright white streaks. The most outstanding piece for the largest sphere is close yellow stripes of amazing regularity. I had pictures of each piece but my computer ate them, I can redo easily If that would help. Thanks for the replies.

I am interested but it would be this fall before I could get started. I am a FMS member and enjoy making fluorescent spheres. I have made spheres from the Long Lake Zinc Mine material. I core drill to minimize waste and use water. Sometimes saw oil will affect the fluorescence. PM to discuss further.

I'm gonna start working on fixing some of my equipment this week and see how it goes. My coring drill died too, not sure when I can replace that. Maybe I'll be back in sphering business one day...been awhile.

I have a cube of Amazonite that I think could make a one-incher or maybe a little larger with some nice schiller but there is no special hurry. I need to gather some other materials too, when you're ready I could send a box and get a quote?
