I had some time this past week to really sit down and do some cabbing. I played with a lot of stone types and had a few which really turned nice. Here is a link in to my album at photobucket s1326.photobucket.com/user/vibratumble/library/5-25-2015%20Cabochons and some of the cabs from the week.
Amygdaloidal Basalt - not really sure this is "lapidary" worthy, but it is neat material.
Ankara Agate - this is a stick & pseudo morph agate. Cherry Creek Jasper - love this stuff and unfortunately, I think I am out now.
Chrysocolla in Quartz - looks really nice in silver. I am looking forward to wrapping this one
Fossil Corral - ? Not positive what this is...
Kaleidoscope Jasper
Mexican Crazy Lace
Morrisonite
Ocean Jasper
Oregon Holly Blue Agate 1 - I had one tiny slab of this that I got two cabs from. They took a silky polish
Oregon Holly Blue Agate 2
Petrified Wood - I have never seen wood like this before..anyone have an idea where it comes from? (at least I think it is wood..)
Picasso Marble 1 - the Picasso took a much better polish than I had expected it to.
Picasso Marble 2
Psilomelane - first time I worked with this. I see what everyone means by it being messy lol. Reminds me of working with boulder opal.
Royal Aztec Lace
Schalenblende - unusual stone. It is very, very, soft but it takes a very fast "wet" polish.
Shattucite
Sonora Sunset 1 - I am not positive this is Sonora Sunset..?
Sonora Sunset 2
Victoria Stone 1
Victoria Stone 2
It was really nice to finally get some serious mineral meditation time in...just out of curiosity, anyone else start getting "antsy" when they can't get out to play with their rocks lol? My wife said I was getting "pissy" and kicked me out to the garage yesterday.

These came out really nicely, Roger. The basalt is interesting. Unique? Regardless of the adjective, I like it. What does the rough look like? Paul

Roger, I really think your cabs are really nice. I would like to comment on the cab from petrified wood and say that it might have come from New Mexico. I purchased some material in the early 70's from an old rock hound in the Texas panhandle. Some of the wood had color and supposedly came from an area that he got to by crossing the White Sands Missile Range when they had open house. He said the material was not on the range and I never asked for a location. Most was dark but some had really pretty color that I am now working into rough preforms. If your cab is a piece of this material you can see why I also liked it. Maybe some other collectors know the location.

You had a very busy cabbing week, and with beautiful results! I simply lost the track of my favorites while scrolling down so much.

Wow X 10. Very beautiful batch.
I find stone here that looks an awful lot like your morisonite so I am going to have to do some checking and comparisons.
Thanks for the great show. Jim

Perhaps your Pet wood is something you have bought. We have a Petrified wood in Australia from around Chinchilla in southern Queensland that looks very like yours, Thousands of square Kilometers covered in petrified wood but its really only around Chinchilla that you get the stuff with the beautiful red splashes. Easy to collect too, just stop on the side of the road anywhere and start picking it up.

Great batch, loving the polish you got on the Picasso marble. Do you mind sharing what polish you used?

Great batch, loving the polish you got on the Picasso marble. Do you mind sharing what polish you used? I do my polishing on diamond flex wheels. I think the Picasso I took to 14k or 50k, I know I didn't go higher than 50k. It took a good polish on 14k

You've been busy.... A lot of nice cabs, there. The basalt is intriguing. Is that obsidian in the amygdules?
I like your asymmetrical triangles. I'll have to try that one.
