This months challenge was creating a geometric design with straight lines, but no one defined what we could do within those outlines. Stichite in Serpentine from Tasmania, send by a friend in Tasmania to try out Very soft material to work with (I suppose Soapstone like), but solid and very compact to about a mm thickness. Originally, I planed to use Sodalite for this project, but the intriguing mixture of colours here won out, and fortunately went ahead with this one. As always, still room to improve, but no more time before the death-line, so this will have to do. Thanks for looking, Kurt

Outstanding octopus carving, kk! How did you remove the stichtite in serpentine material from around its legs, head and the octagon-shaped frame?

Outstanding carving Kurt. The contests like that are the one thing I miss about that FB group.

Outstanding carving Kurt. The contests like that are the one thing I miss about that FB group. Come on in over. We started an intependent page especially for getting all lapidarists involved in a monthly challenge. Still have to improve the format as we suddenly got some outstanding carvers partaking, scaring the canbers off. You can find us under Lapidary Challenge. Any natural material and any style goes. Numbers are small for now, but quality is good.

Thank you all for the kind comments. Got some new material from Tasmania. But is softer, so I don't know yet if it will work out. Should have something to show within a week or so (fail or not )
