I am still picking up some cool stuff at the swap meet, just haven't been posting the booty.
Picked up the following four slabs today for the exorbitant sum of $3.
Not sure what this first stuff is, but it is a vibrant purple. A little bit of grainy rind around the edges, but most of the purple is hard and solid.
Closeup
Back. A few fractures, but should be able to get at least a couple good-sized cabs.
The guy selling them said this was the best that I had picked. There was a sign saying there was some Big Diggins agate, I think this most fit the bill.
And the back.
Some kinda agate. Has some nice color.
Back lit
This is the last slab I got, a piece of labradorite. Flat, back side.
Front side. Not cabbed, but slightly domed. Cut oriented better than I could have done!
You can see some saw marks (most everything had some saw marks), but I'll overlook them. Should be able to grind them out without too much trouble. When I asked the guy if he had cut everything himself, he said his dad did.
The money shot.
Picked up this beautiful moonstone and little faceted (some kind of) stone in silver in April. Nice sheen to it.
The stone is a good inch long. Someone did some fine silver work on it. I got it for $35.
I know I could not have made it for that!
Don't know what the faceted stone is. Looks kinda like smokey quartz?
Backside. I don't know how important the hole in the back is for letting light through, maybe just saved some silver weight?
Thanks for looking! Jean

All kinds of treasures Jean. Never find lapidary treasures out this way. Then again, not so much competition from rock hunters.

You always find neat stuff!
I suspect the hole in the back of the pendant is for both purposes: letting in light and reducing weight.
Thanks for the show!

Wow, those are incredible bargains you found Jean. That mossy agate is sweet, but the Labradorite is my favorite. That stuff is hard to orient and agreed, the cutter did a great job, spot on. Thanks for the great show.

Yep, #2+3 look to be Big Diggins. That white sagenite stuff along the edges is often seen at that site and Big Diggins has banded types, sagenite, moss, and plume in the same area .....Mel
