I just read that PayPal's new user agreement forces you to accept robocalls. Since many of us use PayPal to make rock transactions, I thought you should be aware of the new policy. I don't really like phone calls at all and telemarketers and politicians' calls are the ones that annoy me the most. I just sent PayPal a note letting them know that I would be closing my account if this is not removed from the user agreement. A horrible new PayPal policy opts you into getting robocalls

Thanks for the heads-up Rob. I am so sick of robo calls. As a business owner it is MUCH harder to prevent them. I frequently am in the middle of some intricate work and get a call, Only to answer it and hear "This is your last alert". Or my daily call from "Ashley, after reviewing my credit card....". This winter though I got the worst, so bad it was kinda funny. It emphatically said "Stop whatever you are doing and listen to this important message......"
BTW, it usually is a bad idea to hit the option key to "opt out of any further calls". This just targets you as a live listener so they can sell your phone number for more money. URggg.

I feel sure there will be an opt-out. Especially after all this noise. But, likely hard to find.
I am not aware of another service. Small business can get a "Square" or other card processing. People just selling an occasional rock or piece of used equipment might not have to many options unless they wanted to slow down to paper checks and snail mail. Not something I would be willing to do. I am not in business, and don;t have to sell, and would just choose not to before I dealt with paper checks in the mail.

My phone service does not accept automated calls. Therefore I am no longer 100% verified but considered 80% verified by Paypal. After almost 15 years! But I make too much money using them, so I'm going to roll with the punches.

I read the OP when Rob first posted it, didn't give it too much thought. I have received a couple emails from PayPal stating "important notice about upcoming policy updates", so I decided I better look into it more. Consider this a warning!!
If you have not already done so, take a minute and look at the upcoming policy changes now: www.paypal.com/us/webapps/mpp/ua/upcoming-policies-full
This is going to affect you and how you do any online business BIG TIME. Even if you are just sending/receiving a personal payment to someone to cover only shipping costs for something that is offered to you for free. If you have any deals of this nature in the works now, you have until July 1, 2015 to get them processed, and cancel your account if you do not agree with PayPal's new User Agreement, the PayPal Privacy Policy and the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy. If you do nothing, it means you agree to their terms. What, did they have a politician draw this up for them? Asinine!!
For instance: Not sure what their fees were before, since I have never received money through PayPal (only purchases) before. But they list the fee schedule here, and the add,
Yeah, let's just make up the rules as we go along... After reading about the robocalls (already get enough of those, thank-you-very-much!), calling me anytime they freaking feel like it, texting my cell phone (which they can do, whether I have given it to them or they procured it in some other fashion), and also sharing my information, I am so out of there! Guess I will have to take them off my website for payment. I will also be paying online vendors (read: Amazon, eBay, etsy, etc) some other way as well.
I've always been very happy using PayPal in the past, but this has me pissed. I hope that everyone will read their new rules and decide for themselves what course of action to take. I hope PayPal loses lots of clients. Suppose it will also hurt eBay vendors.
Lots more changes, learn about them now. Don't cry about it when they go into effect.

If you have a relationship with a business, they do have the right to call you. Paypal putting it explicitly in their agreement is apparently making the lawyers happy but other than that what's the big deal here? They rarely call, and it's usually to verify a log-in from a remote location. If you can't accept robocalls for whatever reason, you can still use Paypal to buy and sell. They're letting me do it and I've had a cell phone service for two months now that doesn't accept robocalls from anyone so I've had the chance to give it a pretty good test. I'm still a verified seller. At 80% instead of 100% as I said before but I'm still verified. Not seeing the big deal here. I would have lost out on literally thousands of dollars every year I had no way to reach otherwise if I didn't accept Paypal. Don't cut off nose to spite face. I'm not switching to some "me too" service on the theory of "I haven't heard any scare stories yet" when the reason there's no scare stories about the little-known service is because my buyers and clients don't use it...
Every year in late spring/early summer EVERYBODY sends out these notices. All the credit card companies, all the banks, the insurance companies...it must be the "privacy notice" and "agree to changes" time of year. Doesn't make any difference. You're not gonna give up having your credit card, bank, and insurance, and you're probably not gonna give up Paypal either. At least I'm not. Probably for some of you the other half is just tossing the snail mail notices you get like this in the trash unread with the rest of the junk mail & you're not realizing how absolutely common & standard this type of notice really is. i never bother my hubby with this stuff. It isn't worth one person angsting over much less two.
Also...yes...some of the fees within the US are going down. As in back down to FREE. I'm assuming this is so they can compete with direct ACH deposits which more people are comfortable making now, which are free within the US from your bank.

On my eBay app it says eBay and PayPal are about to be two separate companies. Read up in case this goes south

Exactly. The two companies are separating again, so they have to redo all of their privacy agreements separately. EBay has the same right to make robocalls in their agreement but I guess nobody cares because eBay has made itself so irrelevant unless you sell cheap Chinese stuff...Paypal is a core way to get paid all over the internet and all over the world, I'm not giving that up!

Thanks. I figured they fixed something or had some fix in the works. I've been verified 100% again for several days even though my phone service doesn't accept Robocalls.
