Had a customer stop by today trying to replace a large (1 1/2- 1 3/4 inch) Sterling lion head pendant that was stolen in a burglary. I've looked at suppliers, etsy, e bay, etc and can't find anything that size that is finely detailed and not just a mass of poorly sculpted silver.
anyone do lost wax casting on here or know a custom shop that does?

Hey Arlen, I used to deal some in surplus furniture hardware and occasionally came across some pretty good quality lions head drawer pulls. These have a ring pull in the lion's mouth but if this ring was removed it would be fairly easy to make a mold from the lions head back plate to create a wax pattern for casting. Better detail could always be carved into any wax pattern made from such. Take a look at some of these (keep in mind the dimensions usually include the ring pull that hangs down much lower). www.google.com/search?q=lion+head+drawer+pull&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=lion+head+drawer+pull&tbm=shopLarry C.

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I don't have casting equipment, nor know anyone who does. This guy had a lion head he described as bigger than a silver dollar and I can't find one anywhere of that size. The chain he wore it on was a 28 or 30 inch anchor style 10 to 12mm wide. No, I didn't have Mr. T or a rap star in my shop. just a white guy with a taste for gaudy bling, but he did say he was a Leo, so that partially 'splains it

Thanks. the etsy one is silver plate over bronze and the amazon is white gold. He is pretty exacting in his request and I have looked high and low for the right metal, size and high detail in a piece. His was custom made and was a stunning piece! judging by his pics!

Make sure you put "sterling silver" in the query. That will eliminate ones that aren't what you are looking for. Also put the size in. I came across lots of them. Just don't know how they compare to the custommade one your client had. Can you post a pic?

Obviously a custom piece and the chain it was on would frighten anyone under 6'2" and 250 pounds 28 or 30 inch Mariners or anchor link about 13mm wide. I found some listed for $900-$1,200 for the chain alone(freaked)
