Craigslist is HOT tonight! Check out this deal in Astatula, FL. A star diamond cabbing unit, a trim saw, a drop saw, and two pallets of lapidary rough for $300! Seller is fishing to find out if it's worth more so somebody needs to jump on this one quick! Larry C. orlando.craigslist.org/for/5063489453.htmlP.S. I'm in no way connected to the seller.

Too far for me but I'd offer him $500 for everything. Yes, it's worth more, but rusty and those plastic containers of rocks might shatter when moved.

You guys really still buy and sell on Craigslist? It's dead around here. In the GNO area he's not getting $300, he's probably not even getting any looky-loos. It's hard to even use it to get people to take away a free item. I figured it was dying all over from the looks of the 1998 web design so I'm just curious.

Heck yes on Craigslist. Don't sell, but have found several excellent deals. Used to check daily, now a couple times a week as I remember.
If this guy above wasn't a 2 1/2 hour drive each way, I'd go check out his coral in a quickness. Nothing else there I would be interested in. All those machines are probably rusted to hell, not sure they would even be worth refurbishing.
But yeah, good stuff on Craigslist. Just wish there was more of it! Not a lot of lapidary in Florida. When I check the nationwide site listings there is always something that I wish was closer so I could go see it.

When I check the nationwide site listings there is always something that I wish was closer so I could go see it. I tried to set some alerts on the New Orleans craigslist but I never got any hits. I gave up searching it because there's never anything lapidary when I search it. Nobody buys, nobody sells. Wonder what the difference is. I have to say I've gotten a little skittish about selling there, although sometimes you have no choice if it's furniture, heavy equipment, or an old car. Nobody responds unless those items are offered for far below value and even then...a lot of the time they're a no-show. Even if it's an item free to haul away, about 80% of the time some flake says they'll take it and then doesn't show...it's gotten real ugly out here! I would not have offered any cash for the dude's rocks. I might have offered to haul it all away without charging him because I'd figure he's gonna end up paying somebody to take the junk away. So that's the difference between this area and where ya'll are Craigslisting!

Had a neighbor move out from down the street last weekend. He posted a FREE come get it type ad with a couple pictures. (went and found the ad after I noticed the commotion down there) Furniture, a bike and even a generator which I doubt worked. We had several folks come clear out the pile rather quickly, and then had some rather undesirable folks driving very slowly up and down the street for the rest of the day. Different neighbor had left his garage door open when he went out, which is usually okay around here, but I kept a close eye on things until he returned home. These craigslist freebee hunters would stop in front of the house with the open garage (several houses away from the free stuff house) like they were casing the place. Couple times I went out in the driveway and made my presence quite obvious. FREE draws in all sorts of critters. Here's a link for "search all of craigslist" (nationwide search) if someone wants it - www.searchallofcraigslist.org/

Here's a link for "search all of craigslist" (nationwide search) if someone wants it - www.searchallofcraigslist.org/ They know if the garage is open & it's just a "mistake" because they were picking up a freebie & "mistakenly" got the wrong address, the police won't prosecute. I mean, I do freebie pickup too, but I haven't done it in a couple of years. I'm completely disgusted with some of the people who got into this for the wrong reason. It's one thing to look for pieces to upcycle and save somebody a hauling fee. It's another thing to waste people's time with no-shows or to create a mess in their neighborhoods or try to steal something that is clearly not for sale. Those types spoil it for everybody! My ethic is simple. Take what the person wants you to take. Don't pick and choose and leave them still with a hauling problem. And DON'T take what they DON'T want you to keep. It just amazes that people can't follow the simple laws of decency.

A wire brush and a little sand blasting will take care of all the rest. The drop saw alone looks worth the $300 - in decent shape they usually bring twice that. Larry C.

It works here! You have to be willing to haul everything they have but yeah. It works. That's why I was curious about people offering to pay some guy when it isn't even his rocks. It's an estate and, yes, he will have to pay someone to haul the stuff away that he can't sell. It can be a real problem. It must depend very much on the area and the size of the hobby in that area.

I've had tremendous luck on Craigslist. Have sold 9"Highland Park Trim/slab saw($225), A doghouse ($35), a trailer stabilizing hitch(175),a 7" tile saw, A DP Genie($1100), an old travel trailer($1200), a benchtop drill press(50)and have a guy coming out today to look at my Lortone LS10 saw (650). All sales in the last year or so. I live 1/2 hr. from the interstate, so I offer to meet them sometimes @ a Medford exit. So far, no one has been a no show, and I query them if they have the appropriate $$$ in cash. NO BS. No Haggle. Works for me, anyway. The Pacific Northwest is not only Rock Heaven, but alot of rock people abound. I sprained my neck recently putting a new cooling system in my '86 Chevy, couldn't finish myself, posted ad on Craigslist and had a mechanic lined up for the next day after only an hour. As far as the flakes on CL, (there are many), I have a lot of questions I ask on the phone and it usually gets rid of the less-than-serious folks. Maybe I'm just lucky?

I would guess it's less about luck and more about location. Lapidary is not a popular hobby in the New Orleans area. Selling equipment just doesn't happen, although the reverse side of it is that I used to get tons of equipment for the hauling or barely above the price of hauling. Right now I'm not taking on any more because turning it over is just not realistic though...In fact we got rid of our truck and our van and we're aggressively saying no to people who offer to give us stuff for the hauling. I'd love to add more to my collection but it can't happen until I clear out more of the stuff we already have.
Good luck selling your saw!
I follow some photographers on Instagram etc and it's truly amazing some of the stones you have in Oregon. It must do wonders to create excitement for the hobby.

Saw sold yesterday. It took almost 2 months, but I got my asking price when I agreed to meet him near the highway (9 miles for me.) Got a Heavy duty Lortone 12lb. tumbler posting tomorrow on Medford CL.

Congrats. Offering to meet people near the highway doesn't make any difference for me. I'm already right off the Causeway. If I was any closer to the highway, I'd be in the lake. But I GREATLY appreciate the information & the tips. I still have big stuff to sell so I need to figure out what's working for other people that I can put to work for me.
