Just unpacked the Alaskan wave jasper First impression is that it is very dense, very minor pitting, a few fractures, very nice colors reddish orange, yellow, some greens(olive) a little white and the black. So far I'm very impressed polishing will be the test.

Very pretty stuff, glennz01! Really like the bright colors in it and the wavy pattern reminds me of Tree Bark rhyolite. I hope you'll post your cabs from the material, minerken.

able to get a pre-forum yet minerken ? You should also post a pic of the 2nd slab as thats the lowest grade i'd take.

Ok have been making Glenn wait long enough so here is the start of a cab I am cutting from his material. I say start because I have only taken it to 600 and then hit it with Zam just to see how it was doing. 1. this stuff works beautifully 2. no pits or fractures to work around 3. minor undercutting on the bands 4. may be a little hard to polish It sort of reminds me of cutting tiger iron it doesn't want to pop unless you really work it, it's definitely in the jasper hardness range actually between 6.5 and 7. this piece is more like what he called his lower quality because of where it made the cut . So far so good the next step will be to put it through the vib and see if I can get a wet shine on it

Looks nice thus far minerken. I would still say that is high grade and mid quality stuff as it is still the hard jasper stuff. The lower grade but varying quality is like the 2nd slab I sent that is more like rhyolite at least how it feels on the outside... Once you work a piece off the 2nd slab that will cover the full range of grades for silica content... or should.
