Good morning folks, Just a couple more Rio pics before I'm off to the shooting range....Mel This one is kind of unusual. The red portion is jasper and the yellow is dense moss agate. Small fracture separates the two sections. I'd love to know how this formed. Closer shot of the golden portion. I like this moss! Another oddball agate. The golden sections are small poppies.

I don't see how you could ever get tired of cutting these Rios. They are never the same and there's no telling what's inside until you get there. More winners here!

Man oh man guys. Clayton and the pups brought by another hundred pounds yesterday. Included was one of the wildest Rios I've seen yet. I'll see if I have time to start cutting it this afternoon. I'm about to pee my pants waiting to see what's inside this one......Mel

I love them Rios but I too admire your ability to slab round cobbles! I've got a few of these Rios from Mel and they are just sitting gathering dust because I haven't figured out how to hold them in the vise. These things are mostly close to egg shaped. Cutting crosswise is pretty easy, plenty of the "egg" in the vise to grab hold of. It's the cutting them lengthwise that has me perplexed. There's just not much to get a hold of there. And the very last thing I need is an egg shaped rock coming loose during a cut in my new saw. I know there are various slab grabbers on the market, and I may have to go that route if all else fails. But, knowing Mel (of Scottish descent), I'm betting he has methods which don't require such aids. I love seeing all the Rios, but I'd also like to see a slew of pictures of them clamped in the vise for cutting. How 'bout it Mr. Mel? Care to edumacate us uns on cutting them eggs longwise?

You know, I am s Rio rich that I seldom take more than three or four slabs from a nodule. I just cut them crosswise like you mentioned and take what I get on that first session. I seldom have problems vicing them up as I use a soft shim beneath the stone....Mel

these are all so awesome. How cool the pups fetch and you are spared the climbing and the stooping but you get the fun of opening the treasures. The gold on the bottom is so cool... I would love to see somebody make part of that into a cab. we are all waiting for the next show now... (getting out the towel for the drool) keep posting!

I want to see the rock that makes you "tinkle" in your pants! If it does that to YOU, I am a little fearful of what it might do to the rest of us!
