Now all I have to do is figure out what to do with them. A couple are getting mounted on black jade but beyond that I don't know. I am not going to start working silver because I have done enough metal work to last a lifetime. Jim

Thanks all. I have not been around opal except for common so I was not sure if it was good stuff or not. Jim

those are freaking beautiful! They would make great pendants, the light could play in them that way...

WOW, looking absolutely great. Now would just wish they would come in affordable 2 inch sizes. Yes, that would be sweet but then I would really really worry about them breaking. I am working on some common opal to mount some on but as soon as I get a thin blade for my trim saw I want to cut some black jade for mounting them. They are pretty tiny but a couple of them could probably stand alone some how. I have never tried wire wrapping that small but I do have some wire small enough to try. Jim Thanks all for the great comments. Jim

@wampidy, your welos look fantastic! I cannot wait to see them finished! You did an excellent job working them and they have excellent play-of-color. Your heart and first oval are my faves.

I love bamboo shish kabob sticks.
I knew a man who used to fly to Australia and pick up rough opal and cut it. He made a fortune selling finished opals similar to what you are doing there Jim. Great niche you got going there.

Great work on the Welo!
I took an Opal class 3 or 4 years ago and was introduced to Welo and could not believe the color and fire
A little tricky because it likes to fracture. Yours are great specimens

jamesp the bamboo works perfect with Elmer's ProBond Advanced for the first go but if it comes off it will stay better with super glue the second time. The small ridges in the bamboo help keep it from spinning in the fingers too. chassroc all of these pieces are fractured pieces from a larger stone. Some of the fractures happened while I was working it too. Just have to work with smaller and smaller stones. hahaha And not worry about it because worry does not help. I am working two pieces now that are the same width as the sticks and one piece that is triangular that has no sides big enough to put a stick on. gingerkid jan told me that she uses match sticks so I am going to have to try those next. Thanks, I am blushing. Some people probably call it gloating or is that glowing, hell, I never know but thinks for the compliments.
I am working on some, what I think, awesome stones to mount some of these opals on. I will be asking advice about how everyone thinks they go together because my fashion and color sense are both nonsense. Jim
