Looks like some low grade Petoskey in a couple of those. Nice fossils, but I've got enough!

yeah there is a small section of hex pattern in that one but there should not be any Petoskey stone near the Island. You know I am not into fossils but my kids had fun picking these up a few years ago. They have been in a crate ever since.

Why wouldn't there be Petoskey stone? It's from the Devonian era. We have all sorts of fossils around here, including Petoskey. I'm not 100% sure that's Petoskey, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. I can pretty easily go pick up a baseball sized Petoskey stone, but it wouldn't be good for lapidary work. They're great as fossils though.
I really like the meshy looking stuff in a lot of your fossils. I've seen them like that here, but not often.

I just pulled out my Petoskey stone book. It says this:
"According to Central Michigan University Associate Professor Kathy Benison, there are Petoskeys in the Upper Peninsula. They are not, however, on the lake shores, but rather in the inland bedrock. Now that's not the bee place to find them, but if you are in the UP, don't forget to look."
So I guess you're right. To answer your question, I don't really go to that part of the UP, so I don't know anyone who would tell me about finding any. I just find it weird that you would have other Devonian fossils, but not Petoskeys. Then again, what the heck do I know about fossils? Whatever you have there, they look pretty cool.

Very cool. I don't know what you do with them, but they are extremely interesting to see.
Will wait for that box of high grade pudding stone to be posted.
