I would like to trade (several varieties) of davis creek obsidian for other rocks to cut. would like to trade a small or medium usps box. also just returned from the middle fork mine and have around 100 lbs. of banded obsidian, some with thin layers and some with wider bands small to 3 lb. sizes. the only way for funds would pay-pal and thier policy is,.. well you know. I have never bought or sold on this site, so maybee there's a better way. would be interested in selling other varieties of obsidian. have lots of slabs to trade or sell too. (so I can have an excuse to cut more!)also have white quartz rock, rhyolite, which looks like picture stone, red jasper (very hard) along with other oddball stuff. would include pictures but do not know how yet, thank you.

Hi Obsidian Man I have Rio Grande agate, which I obtained from another trader on the board. I could swap a small or medium box for tumbling rough and/or end cuts that I could tumble. LMK, David

hi DJN I have end cuts slabs small tumble pieces from the needles mine, even some small needles (obsidian) rarest mine in the us. mostly mahogany obsidian, but lots of black semi clear in it to solid brown, from 30 lb. rocks to tiny 1/2" tumblers. the banded which has awesome sheen (some rainbow) but all banded is rainbow if cut properly!, also have some rare pink lady, pink/purple obsidian some of it is absolute awesome, golden sheen, silver sheen, midnight blue. some have super thin metal streaks in it to give off that sheen too. must cab to appreciate. if you want rhyolite or red jasper, I have some of that too. the rhyolite is similar to picture jasper, I think it is called california jasper, it has linear fractures to work around color is tan to purple, mostly earth tones, gotta go and eat. might spend time in the shop cabbing or a little free form. now that my equipment is set up, it is just a big mess right now. lets figure how to send rocks, let me know what you want,if i got it!do you just cab? or? will be in to check messages off and on,obsidian man.

Meaning no disrespect "Obsidian man",but you should have more posts on this forum,so people can get to know who you are-before you start selling on here..... A few people have burned folks on here with sales and they get leery.........Not saying you would, but it's happened more than once on here..So you might not get many offers.... Davis Creek Obsidian is some nice stuff, just hang around a bit and get to know the forum a bit,I bet you would get some buyers than-Thumbs up

wow 10,313 posts. how many do I need? I am old and retired. cant type fast so I am not going to make even 5,000 posts before i'm deceased. I do belive I was asking to trade for some different material, and was describing what I had in my collection. which is not large anyhow. I am a pay it forward kind of guy so if somebody would like to trade I would send a box at my cost to thier address. and if I get nothing in return, no big deal because the rocks arent worth the cost to send. (only to me)plus you all will now it! but it does not intend that I have tons of years collecting. but I do have a little too much of some stuff, I am new! so if I make a mistake thanks for the heads up. hope to have time to post a few more messages, but I have a life and have to get back to it. thanks again for the replies, and heads up to fossilman, and rockman (I will try that), and hopefully talk to you djn later, bye.

hi catbob, yes it is a 5-gallon bucket. it has paddles made of 4" pvc, I made 6 onlt kept one. this design had a flaw, but I improved it to fit the bucket with plywood rounds on the ends. helps the bucket stay on the rollers, I also made a tumbler out of a 15 gallon keg for my brass. It is apart at the moment to reline the interior, but if you want a good shine on 2000 rounds at once this will do it! the other (5gal.) model has a industrial sewingmachine motor on it,: variable speed from 0-3500 rpm's. and they cost around $135.00. they work great on one of my poly arbors for polishing at any speed!. bought them on e-bay. have a nice day rock on, will.

When you go to collect the Davis Creek obsidian you must have a permit. That permit says you can not sell or barter any of the material that you collect. Bob

When you go to collect the Davis Creek obsidian you must have a permit. That permit says you can not sell or barter any of the material that you collect. Bob That is correct.. but,There are many pits up there with commerical permits, if given permission to dig in their pits i believe you can trade or sell the stuff you collect...not real sure about all the particulars about that permits, how many how much, but i know Tony had a pit there at one time, and invited us up...and if you need more info cotact him....we also had permission for the needle mine...most claim owners are more than glad to share a bucket full...but like Bob said if your gona do it on your own and want to sell you must have a commerical permit....if i got any of this wrong please correct me..i have alot i got from estate sales and i mixed it in with the self collected stuff and cant tell the difference....so i always keep a bucket full on hand marked self collected just in case....J/K

deserthound is correct, in fact the commercial permit holder at the needles mine we purchased our stuff from name is richard moore, he sells obsidian needles/ wind chimes (beautiful), and is a quite interesting man. he has been digging that hole for 40 years, and put two kids through college, bought a home ect..., that is from his mouth but you can find his website and find out for yourself. second there is annother comercial digger at the rainbow mine, he lives two streets past the store (davis creek) and one block back, his thing is to fill a set of doubles and sell it to china. for a great deal of money I bet. I haven't bought any from him in 3 years. the last time I visited the needles mine and almost every time I visit it richard is there, and would be happy to give you anything past the log wall that he put up as a wall to his pit. to all that go and visit, get a permit! because bobby is correct, and if you do not have proof that you were given,or sold the rocks , then you broke the law according to the modoc forest service.,(530)279-6116, richard is a very friendly person do not be afraid to ask, thank you bob for bringing up this very touchy subject. I will not sell any! davis creek obsidian I pick up by permit myself.it's not worth the arguments I have better things to do. o/m
