Went down to Glendive a few weeks ago and spent some time at seven sisters looking for rocks. These are a few that have made it through the UV-10 so far. The handful of Montana agate I found is still in the rotary. I could tell it was pretty well picked over, but even still there was a lot of pet wood and jaspers. I wish I were a little closer to the river, lots of good stuff to find there, especially I imagine in the early spring of the year. Here are the rocks... Pet wood More wood, it seemed like that stuff was all over the place Is this Unakite or Epidote? either way pretty cool stuff. Just for kicks I threw in a few pieces of river rounded quartz. The top left has a nice scene of a sunset over a beach with a tree reaching out over the water. Chert These are from an earlier trip, the yellow jasper from the Yellowstone and other 2 from the Missouri river. A couple montana's from an earlier trip Hope to make it back out there next spring instead of late in the season when the water is running high and everything has been picked over.

very nice! self collected are always the best! Here we would call your pink and green rocks unakite, and the all green ones will be epidotite or epidosite depending on their makeup. epidote works fine for a name for them.

Nice finds! The wood from the lower Yellowstone is some of the nicest in the state, some is agatized. Just a tip for you on hunting the river, High water hits in mid to late May and stays high until late June. As soon as the water starts coming down, the shores the public can get to at the campgrounds and bridges get picked as the water recedes.
The locals use power boats to hunt the river and they tend to get the prime stuff as they are able to go often. So, by the time the water is at it's lowest(from July on)the exposed gravels have been picked over. So, I have found the best hunting to be in the summer, but competing with the masses that hit the public access spots and the boats that are running the rest it is a bit tough to find the best stuff as allot get found not long after it has been exposed.

Nice tumbles, Matt. I agree that the green rocks look similar to the unakite we find in Michigan.

This is one of my favorite sites to rock hound. Take the whole family and make a day of rock picking. Site does get picked over but still lots of fun. We also do a lot of picking near Terry Mt. We are going again in a couple of weeks.

Nice looking tumble, and great that you can hound yourself. I'm half tempted to put the canoe on the truck and head up

Fun stuff, and a great shine! When you do the collecting AND polishing, that is the best of both worlds!
