Probably a House Finch, but a better profile view would help me be sure as they have a bit of a brownish cap. I don't think you have Purple Finches there except in winter.
They have nice songs.

Thank you crazy8s and panamark. House finch introduced from west to Long Island NY as a pet. Got loose and thrived in the east. See 'Hollywood Finch'.

Agree with panamark, House Finch. Red ones are males in breeding plumage, females are bland brown (the one to the right in photo). Females prefer to mate with the reddest males. What makes them more desirable? Maybe they are jealous of the flamboyant coloring?
They are year round residents in the western and eastern US, but not so much right down the center of the country.
Wonder why that is? We have them here. They like the black oil sunflower seeds.
