Back in the mid 90's I cut the cabs for a couple belt buckles as a gift to my father in law. He passed a couple years ago, and we've recently had to move my mother in law into assisted living. While sorting through things in preparation for selling mom's house, my wife came across the old buckles. First an Owyhee picture jasper. And a Montana moss. Sorry for the glare on the buckles. It's strange what keeps showing up when someone is nearing the end of their life. I'd forgotten all about making these buckles.

those are wonderful. Can see the love and attention to detail in them. Something to pass on to future generations.

Here are the cabs, out of the buckles. Father in law wore this buckle. It's picked up a few scratches.

Amazing cabs Don. U got the skillz! LOL. Not any more. Got the old fart shakes now. Takes forever to grind & polish a cab these days.

Beautiful belt buckles. Both cabs seem to fit absolutely perfect in the metal frame.

Both are pretty. It may be 20 or 30 years too late, but you do have some scratches on the last one. Maybe the Fatherinlaw scratched it but they are all running in the same direction. Don't get me wrong. Not everything we make has to be perfect and certainly its a joy to see that someone kept and used a gift that we made and gave. Far better than our hesitating to create because we sell ourselves short. Cheers. Tom

Father in law was a machinist. He did a lot of precision grinding. The scratches came from grinding grit & probably tungsten carbide lathe & milling tools.

jakesrocks, I hope you'll post your gorgeous Owyhee in your Picture Jasper thread. Did you place the cabs back into the belt buckles? I hope so! I would wear them.

Jan, the stones are back in the buckles for now. I'm gonna take the picture jasper back out and refinish it when I have time.

No don't refinish it. Your father in law put them there because he liked to wear that buckle, wore it everyday not just on Sundays or dinner out. He wore it where a man deals with men, machinery and he worked!!! Leave them, they are a statement of love, pride and honor....

Tell the story to grandkids so they can appreciate it as-is!
