As for your question the problem I see with the insulted ice chest is how is the air going to cool the motor properly if it is inhibited by the insulated ice chest?

I believe Lortone tumblers are meant to be operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week in the laundry room, basement, garage, anywhere inside that does not see many visitors. But likely you would be using a homemade tumbler, which would be fine operating outside in the heat.

Welcome to the forum. The motor needs air circulation for cooling. Are you talking rotary or vibe tumblers? Most commercially available rotary tumblers are not obnoxiously loud. With rubber drums or liners they sound about like waves moving rocks on the beach. Vibe tumblers generally sound like electric shavers gone mad. They can often be quieted by placing carpet or other sound deadening substance under them. Just don't block motor airflow and avoid getting fibers pulled into motor vents. An old trick with noisy generators was to build a wall around them with top open. It tended to direct the noise up. We did something similar when we had a trailer. The generator was in the back of the truck. I would park it with the tailgate down and aimed away from camp. The sound was directed away from us. You could do something like that with the tumbler. Leave the side away from your house open to direct sound away. Not towards neighbors though.

welcome to the Forum from Colorado. I was up in Oregon last summer and loved it. I can't say the same about my time in Sacramento but hopefully you will find it a great place to be! Looking forward to hearing how rocking is there.

Welcome to the forum from 60 miles southeast of Sacramento. Always remember its a "dry" heat....It was only 107 yesterday here. Sacramento is usually a little cooler because it has a lot of water around it and there is a "delta breeze" when it is foggy in San Francisco. The Sacramento Gem and Mineral Society is a great bunch of people. Bob

Hi Kathy, I'm Stephan from Davis. Welcome to the Central Valley. It isn't always this hot, but much of the summer is pretty toasty. I echo the sentiments about the Sacramento Mineral Society. Great club. I haven't been a member for the last two years, for reasons that have nothing to do with the club. I plan to rejoin soon. Anyway, here are some pics to get you acquainted with the club. www.flickr.com/photos/36618387@N06/sets/72157625824889210The current pres is Alyssa.
