Some beautiful pieces, james. Some of them look like they are on fire or glowing. So, what puts the tannic acid into the water?

Some beautiful pieces, james. Some of them look like they are on fire or glowing. So, what puts the tannic acid into the water? Tons of organic matter flowing in from the wetland forests stephan. Some water bodies with a PH less than 4.5. Enough acid to kill bacteria and make swamp water potable for city folk. Organic acid that allowed the water to dissolve river ways thru limestone bedrock. And leave silicified goodies behind. Lake Norris FL.

So cool!
This one looks like red-hot glowing lava underneath
Don't ever stop going down there and getting that stuff, James!

Those hatched aliens rockpickerforever Jean. W/nuclear radiation. And STD's. The blue ones are stained by Kryptonoite yolks. Holding them takes years of your age. And increases virility. I can fly now.

You are correct, sir! It is all about the fun...
ETA - Got my super hero attributes mixed up. The Man of Steel did not have the power of invisibility, but he did have x-ray vision. Now, you could work with that!

Next time I go down I am taking some treats for your 11' guard gator and win him over to my side! ( or I could use Mark to distract him!)

X-ray imagination gets me in enough trouble. A super hero must use his special powers responsibly. Imagine being able to use that x-ray vision (NOT imagination!) to check whether the coral heads you find are hollow or not, what the interiors look like to know the best way to cut them. Or to check your welds, to make sure they are good. Now, if your gonna use x-ray imagination for nefarious purposes, you maybe better wish that you are invisible...

jamesp thanks for adding more pics and for the info regarding formation. Metamorphosis is fascinating, in pseudomorphs especially. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how an organic material can be preserved long enough for it to be altered / replaced entirely by minerals.
