I was not planning on posting these wraps but this section has been pretty dead lately so I figured something is better then nothing. The tiger eye was wrapped for a young nephew of mine and the self hounded gowganda tillite was done for a gift shop. Tiger eye Drummond Island Gowganda Tillite (granite in basalt matrix) Thanks for looking Chuck

Those are very nice Chuck. Granite 5hat shines! You still have not done a thing on patina on coppe. I tried mashing a boiled egg up and smearing a copper wrapper cab and leaving it in a open baggie in the fridge and it was not really that dark black. I heard that urine would make it go blue. Gonna try ammonia instead od peeing in a jar. LOL

Gonna try ammonia instead od peeing in a jar. LOL I use liver of sulfur (gel) mixed in hot water (hotter water works faster). pretty much turns black instantly. I also tumble my copper wraps in stainless shot and detergent to make sure the copper is very clean so the patina is even. Dirty copper will leave a blotchy patina. No other secrets. just dip it in till it turns black then remove it and run it under cold water to stop the process. After that rub with #0000 steel wool till you get the look your after. www.riogrande.com/Product/Midas-Liver-of-Sulfur-XL-Gel/331033?Pos=1I tried that egg thing a long time ago and also failed. Chuck

Oops how long to tumble in 5he stainless shot? I go for one hour but would like to hear how long others do. I never really asked I just know that after one hour my stuff is bright and clean and minor tool marks are cleaned up. Chuck

Chuck - great cabs/wraps and thanks for keeping this section alive! Great tips on patina. Cheers. Thanks - I almost feel guilty sometimes posting all these groove wraps. I know they do not require the artistic talent that a well thought out full wire wrap does but I really do like doing them and they are moving pretty good at the moment so it's a win win situation. I personally like the groove wraps, a hint of the wrapping craft but still really shows off the stone. Dont stop posting...please.
I too miss some of the long time contributors to this section, damn I might even have to try wrapping one of these days---but I am afraid it wouldnt be much better than me trying "rapping"...
Cheers
