Protesters Led By Black Man Greet Obama In Oklahoma By Waving Confederate Flags www.theblaze.com/stories/2015/07/15/obama-greeted-in-oklahoma-city-with-protesters-displaying-confederate-flags/President Barack Obama was greeted at his hotel in Oklahoma City Wednesday night by protesters proudly displaying Confederate flags.
The protest was organized by Andrew Duncomb, who calls himself “the Black Rebel,” KFOR-TV reported.
“We don’t believe it’s a symbol of racism,” he told the news station.
“They’re blaming the racist problems on the flag and not on the real problems of America. Through the race lies the people who carry and harbor the hate inside,” Duncomb added.
Several other black individuals participated in the demonstration.
Crazy thing... not one of those flags caused a shooting.

Getting to be a long thread-won't read through it to see if this was posted or not.. If so I apologize for the double post!!! I read and listen about the states and government digging up Confederate graves and destroying monuments!!! People need to study history and get a grip and just let it go! It's all U.S. history!!! Ok,for the people that argue the issue....
Confederate Soldiers,Marines and Sailors, were made U.S. Veterans by an Act of Congress in 1957 U.S. Public Law 85-425 Sec 410 Approved 23 May 1958......
Like it or not,it is government law!!!
In this world we live in now,its getting crazy stupid! People need to learn to just let it go,it's the past and you can't do a damn thing about it!!

It was the 2nd Klan that was founded on and around Stone Mountain in 1915.
""Second KKK See also: Ku Klux Klan in Canada In 1915, the second Klan was founded in Atlanta, Georgia. Starting in 1921, it adopted a modern business system of using full-time paid recruiters. The national headquarters made its profit through a monopoly of costume sales, while the organizers were paid through initiation fees. It grew rapidly nationwide at a time of prosperity. Reflecting the social tensions pitting urban versus rural America, it spread to every state. The second KKK preached "One Hundred Percent Americanism" and demanded the purification of politics, calling for strict morality and better enforcement of prohibition. Its official rhetoric focused on the threat of the Catholic Church, using anti-Catholicism and nativism.[3] Its appeal was directed exclusively at white Protestants.[20] Some local groups threatened violence against rum runners and notorious sinners; the violent episodes were generally in the South.[21]
The second Klan was a formal fraternal organization, with a national and state structure. At its peak in the mid-1920s, the organization claimed to include about 15% of the nation's eligible population, approximately 4–5 million men. Internal divisions, criminal behavior by leaders, and external opposition brought about a collapse in membership, which had dropped to about 30,000 by 1930. It finally faded away in the 1940s.[22] Klan organizers also operated in Canada, especially in Saskatchewan in 1926-28, where Klansmen denounced immigrants from Eastern Europe as a threat to Canada's British heritage.[23][24]""

So Stone Mountain is rich in Klan history. The 2nd Klan. It just so happens the Confederate Memorial is carved into the face of Stone Mountain. Not sure why the Klan chose Stone Mountain. It has a complicated history, the Klan. My father was a member, a Pennsylvanian. And kept secret. It had a nation wide following. It was focused on much more than African Americans. An interesting study. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ku_Klux_Klan"" The Ku Klux Klan was revived at Stone Mountain in 1915, and Martin Luther King, Jr.'s I Have a Dream speech consequently includes the line "let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia." So the second Klan's base of operations was in and around Stone Mountain. Which happens to also be a Confederate Memorial and have a Confederate museum. Again, a complicated situation and requires astute historian to understand the situation causing the riff about the Confederate Flag at Stone Mountain. Guessing that many misinterpretations will continue at this location. One thing for sure, the Memorial carved in granite probably ain't going anywhere.
""Confederate Memorial Carving The largest high relief sculpture in the world, the Confederate Memorial Carving, depicts three Confederate heroes of the Civil War, President Jefferson Davis and Generals Robert E. Lee and Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson. The entire carved surface measures three-acres, larger than a football field and Mount Rushmore. The carving of the three men towers 400 feet above the ground, measures 90 by 190 feet, and is recessed 42 feet into the mountain. The deepest point of the carving is at Lee's elbow, which is 12 feet to the mountain's surface.
In 1912 the carving existed only in the imagination of Mrs. C. Helen Plane, charter member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC). The Venable family, owners of the mountain, deeded the north face of the mountain to the UDC in 1916. The UDC was given 12 years to complete a sizable Civil War monument.
Three sculptors worked on the carving during its creation. Gutzon Borglum was hired in 1915 as the carving consultant, and in 1916 he was appointed carving sculptor by the Stone Mountain Monumental Association. Borglum envisioned a carving with seven central figures accompanied by "an army of thousands." He was not able to begin work on the carving until 1923 due to funding problems and World War I.
After blasting away large portions of the mountain with dynamite, Borglum was able to complete the head of Lee on January 19, 1924. In 1925 a dispute arose between Borglum and the managing association. As a result of the conflict, Borglum left, taking all of his sketches and models with him. Borglum went on to carve the famous Mount Rushmore sculpture in South Dakota.
Augustus Lukeman, the second sculptor, resumed work on the project in 1925. Lukeman's carving included the three central figures of the Confederacy on horseback. He removed Borglum's work from the mountain and diligently worked with pneumatic drills, but by 1928 (the original deadline) only Lee's head was complete and funds were depleted. The Venable family reclaimed their property, and the massive granite mountain remained untouched for 36 years.
In 1958 the state of Georgia purchased the mountain and the surrounding land. The Georgia General Assembly created the Stone Mountain Memorial Association. In 1960 the Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Advisory Committee was comprised of six internationally known figures in the world of art. A competition was held, and nine world-renowned sculptors submitted designs for a new sculpture.
In 1963, based upon recommendations by the Advisory Committee, the Stone Mountain Memorial Association chose Walker Kirkland Hancock of Gloucester, Massachusetts to complete the carving. Work resumed in 1964, and a new technique utilizing thermo-jet torches was used to carve away the granite. Chief carver Roy Faulkner, a marine veteran with a talent for using the new thermo-jet torch, was able to remove tons of stone in one day. For over eight years Park guests could see and hear the workmen and their jet torches.
The figures were completed with the detail of a fine painting. Eyebrows, fingers, buckles and even strands of hair were fine-carved with a small thermo-jet torch.
The carving is actually much larger than it appears from Stone Mountain Park's attractions. Workers could easily stand on a horse's ear or inside a horse's mouth to escape a sudden rain shower. A dedication ceremony for the Confederate Memorial Carving was held on May 9, 1970. Finishing touches to the masterpiece were completed in 1972.""

Note that the state of Georgia was responsible for building the bulk of the Confederate Monument.

Young has said that he is a fan of both "Sweet Home Alabama" and Ronnie Van Zant, the lead vocalist for Lynyrd Skynyrd. "They play like they mean it," Young said in 1976. "I'm proud to have my name in a song like theirs."[1] Young has also been known to play "Sweet Home Alabama" in concert occasionally. To demonstrate this camaraderie, Van Zant frequently wore a Neil Young Tonight's the Night T-shirt while performing "Sweet Home Alabama".[2] Crazy Horse bassist Billy Talbot can often be seen reciprocating by wearing a Jack Daniel's-styled Lynyrd Skynyrd T-shirt (including at the Live Rust concert). In his book "Waging Heavy Peace: A Hippie Dream Young stated that Lynyrd Skynyrd wrote "Sweet Home Alabama" not in response to "Southern Man", but rather to Young's song "Alabama". Young noted that Lynyrd Skynyrd's implied criticism was deserved because Young's lyrics to Alabama were condescending and accusatory, that he does not like how he used his words in the song, and the lyrics were not fully thought out and too easy to misconstrue.[3]"" Southern Man, Neil Young Alabama, Neil Young Sweet Home Alabma, Skynyrd Various opinions of the meaning of 'Sweet Home Aabama' boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=139963

Heard on Atlanta WSB-TV this morning that some wanted to add former president Jimmy Carter, Martin Luther King, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah to Stone Mountain and add rainbow colors to the big rock. Think it may be a better idea to add Mucho Macho Man carving instead of American Pharoah since his owners are from Georgia. Just kidding about the horses and rainbow colors, but there is discussion to add Martin Luther and Jimmy Carter. jakesrocks! jamesp, I have pics of me standing at some of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd members' grave sites in Jaxville. There's a bench from the Charlie Daniel's band there, too.
