I've come to the conclusion I need to clear a path in my garage and buy some new equipment as half of mine is now broken or in serious need of repair. So, I have some really nice Lightning Stone for sale on the cheap. $55 per Medium Flat Rate box to anywhere in US, shipping included. I can usually pack around 30 pounds worth, give or take depending on sizes. I have a ton of medium size and I know there is a lot of pattern buried inside. Most have obvious pattern, but some of the best often show no outwardly signs. I have a good idea on the shapes to grab and there is a best way to cut them often also. If you have a specific use in mind, let me know and I'll try to pick out the best ones. I have probably 500 pounds right now. For sphere makers, they mostly run in the 1.5-2.5 inch ranges but I do have some very nice larger ones, but those may require a larger box! Here are some pics of rough and what they can look like polished. They are a soft stone, maybe on par with marble or a little softer. Also the hardness varies with each rock and throughout the rock. In general, the darker the brown, the harder the stone. PM me for paypal payment.

Five boxes taped and ready to ship on Monday. They range in weights from 33-37 pounds. I'm telling you these are heavy rocks! Still several hundred pounds left....mostly medium to larger size. Catbob...you're gonna have some beautiful sphere material!

All boxes shipped and should arrive by Thurs at the latest I imagine. If you don't get it, holler at me. I got the tracking. Also, I still have plenty left in good size for spheres and display pieces or other uses.

Boxes arrived packed with an outstanding assortment of rocks! Two thumbs up. You guys will have to post some pictures of what you do with them! I filled a milk crate to the rim with them and tucked it away. Not really picture worthy. Post if you have more Jim, because people shouldn't miss out on this deal if they ever plan to buy some.

Still have quite a few large beauties. I went through all of them and got rid of any I thought were less than premium. Everything I ship out, I try to pick the best potential for pattern, but you never know for sure until they are cut sometimes.

I did a swap for some awhile back and was very pleased with what I got. I haven't done anything with them yet but that should change soon as I am finally getting close to finishing the shop building. Has anyone tried tumbling and if so are there any special considerations?

Would love to see some tumbled! Hey rattlehead Jim, you still have that big chunk on the far left of the 2nd picture? Will it fit in a Flat rate box?

Would love to see some tumbled! Hey rattlehead Jim, you still have that big chunk on the far left of the 2nd picture? Will it fit in a Flat rate box? That one is a beauty but too big even for a large flat rate box... I did go out again today. I swore I wasn't going to bring anything back and just enjoy the beach...but the water was so calm and clear, it was amazing. Perfect rock picking day, if you want the big ones you usually have to get wet. Here's what I grabbed. The Lightning Stones were very abundant and I found some with amazing patterns. Very large ones too. I also found a couple nice large Petoskey death floor (the large with grey spots. The grey is Petoskey which will polish great and bring out the pattern), quite a few smaller petoskey stones, a green conglomerate and a couple unknowns. The tube-like Lightning Stone (bottom pic) is basically a conglomerate of small clay concretions held together by the iron stone. It often has crinoids and sometimes other fossils like full brachiopods in them. They don't polish great but they are very interesting to me. Second to last pic is a tube style with lightning stone patterns also. I've got plans for a couple, but the rest will go in the for sale pile.

Lived in MI my whole life and smashed small rocks for hours as a kid, to see what they looked like inside. A week or two ago, I started researching local rocks that may satisfy a void I've felt in the jewelry business... for myself, for work. After finding some - what appear will be - beautiful dark blue & white stone yesterday (not the color I desired but an excellent surprise nonetheless) and seeing here what Lightening Stones are and what captivating beauty they hide... I had no idea I'd find myself so drawn to committing the time (and money, haha) to such a fascinating new hobby. I havent jumped yet, but I'm looking to ... and I'm so pleased to have stumbled across this site. You can be sure I'll have many questions.
