Here I am again with some random rocks I found on the beach! lol Usually the agates I collect around here are small, no bigger than a walnut, but this ugly thing is about baseball-sized. I think there's an agate hidden in all the brown, yeah? It's got the banding. Backside (arbitrary, lol): Front: Closeup of the banding: Rock #2. Not the best pics, sorry, but it's big, about seven inches across, blueish-grey and covered with those little brown dots. The dots go through the rocks, because I found a few smaller pieces of the same stuff. Closeup:

I would say the first one is a nice sized agate for your area, the second? Not so sure, never seen a rock with dots like that before.

Agree with adam that the first one looks like agate, lilacmoth. Nice finds! Not sure about the second one with the cool orbs and strange looking crystals or fossils (?) in the center. Algal concretion or orbicular granodiorite? Don't think it's fish eye agate. Where did you collect them, if you don't mind that I ask?

Unless it's some sort of coral? Almost looks like it.

Yep agate on #1, cool that you found banding!
I almost wondered if #2 might have garnet in it, are the brown spots little crystals?

Tiny garnets? Huh, maybe! They do have that six sided shape! I'm gonna try to get a better pic later, maybe with the microscope.

Alright, I got a few more pics taken of the spotted rocks! Oh, and it's not a fossil - that roundish spot is just how it broke. Apart from the spots, it's the same greyish material all throughout. I have four pieces of it, found them all on the same beach near Port Angeles, WA (Juan de Fuca strait). Haven't seen anything like that anywhere else, nor any more on that beach so far. The group shot. It's hard to see, but they're all different colors! The big one is the darkest and the others are all similar but slightly different shades of bluish grey. Bottom left has much fewer, but also bigger brown inclusions. Closeup of the bigger inclusions in the bottom left rock. Like the others, the area around the brown is lighter than the rest, but this one also has a slight green hue around the brown stuff. Inclusions in the other small rocks: It does look like the brown stuff is kind of separate from the grey stuff, almost like I could pry out one of them if I had a small enough tool.

Thank You, snowmom Mamma! I've been racking my noggin trying to find out more info on garnet in lilacmoth's beach spot. The orbs around the xtals kept throwin' me off. Good eye, herchenx!

That second one might be a limestone or dolomite with a secondary calcium carbonate (calcite) halo surrounding the garnets. I'm in your general area and find similar rocks.
