Hello all, On a recent trip to the Bug Sur area I found a small piece of dark blue jade, what I believe is to be jade. I did the simple tests verify jade and it passed. I hand polished it with silicon carbide wet/dry sand paper and diamond paste like I have done to other pieces of jade and it polished like it. Now I have looked all over the internet trying to find Big Surprise jade of the same color and could find none. Is this jade, or something else?

welcome to the forum! I am a jade enthusiast but have no working knowledge of it. There are jade lovers here who will probably chime in soon though.

Hello there. If it is that dark of a blue piece (almost black) it's probably from Willow Creek? Can you do me a favor and take a picture of it in dusk sunlight. It's a little easier to see the colors. Does it have a waxy surface? OR, surface translucency?

Hi Henry, It is from willow creek. It was pretty rough when I found it. I polished it last night so its smooth but not completely glassy.

Samy-
It's still hard to tell the exact color, but it appears to be the jade I find on occasion.

For some reason I have better resolution on my phone. Definitely dark blue! Awesome job. The blue stuff is becoming more rare as of late.

That's a gorgeous piece of Big Sur jade, samy. Very nice color and polish! How long did it take you to polish it by hand?
