Bummer about the undercutting. I hate when that happens.

What type of rock is that first picture? I had a stone like that in my last batch -- very spherical, dark, and heavy. It was doing fine up until the polish stage where it got pocked and picked apart.

Natural GARNET BLACK ONYX BRECCIATED JASPER Natural FANCY JASPER PICASO JASPER PURPLE DALMATION JASPER AUSTRALIAN MOOKAITE SEA FOSSIL JASPER
I think I would like to try the Garnet and sea fossil, purple Dalmatian again but run them full in the tumblers 15 lbs at a time this was a mix of 1/2 lb plus fish gravel and the BRECCIATED JASPER if that was it really is very metallic looking and heavy for there size.

one more thing the sea jasper was a very dirty one , in all stages it made it very the water slurry a tan brown . even in the last polish stage.

I suspected my rock was a garnet ball. Sounds like we had the same experience with it -- I don't think it's worthwhile to tumble. Way too much undercutting.
Of the others, I suspect the sea jasper must be comparatively soft -- you can tell it rounded off a lot more than the others. This jibes with your observation that it shed a lot of material.
I think your other jaspers have a chance to turn out really well. I would put them back in the rough stage for several more weeks to let them round off to a better shape and then push them on through to polish again.

The garnets are cool, but I have never had any kind of luck getting them to look like anything but what you have there. They are kind of cool just for the weight for their size. Good try, and some of them are very nice.
