I have had this knife blank for over a year and I guess I was waiting to cut the perfect pudding stone for it that would be stable enough to be cut 1/8" thick and still be held together good. I am not 100 percent happy with it but it is still better then I expected for a first go at it. I really like the style of the blank and the blade size but now I can't find the exact one anymore to try again. Already want to try another so I am on the hunt for the perfect blank. Now if I can just get some 12" diameter diamond wheels I can make handles for my 18" ducks unlimited folding lock blade, lol Thanks for looking Chuck

The buck knife model 503 would be my favorite style but I'll need to spend the $40 then remove the existing rivets and handles. Might have to go order one now Chuck

Take a look at the kits that woodcraft (17 1/2 and VanDyke) now sells. I've seen some nice folding knife kits there. I've stocked up on a few along with some hunting knives. When I find the time, I want to make some as gifts using petoskey.
Really nice work on the first one though.

I shop there too for my woodworking hobby but never thought to check for knife blanks. I get there catalogs but they always have a bunch of ink pen blanks and stuff in those. Chuck

I thought I commented on this yesterday. I just came back for another look and see that I haven't. I loved Bill's knifes and I love this one too. I've now seen unakite and pudding stone, I just have to wait for Mibeachrocks to make one out of Petoskey stone and we'll have most of the best Michigan rocks covered.
I used to hunt ducks, but I never needed a humongous knife like yours to clean them. How big are the ducks on Drummond Island?

There is a seller on etsy that sells Petoskey lock blades and they look great but I keep thinking to myself that they would just be show pieces. Seems to me they would get pretty scratched up if used at all. A few of my hand polished ones have gotten messed up just from getting moved around the shop over time. I got the jumbo lock blade at one of the DU fundraisers. Its a good conversation piece in my office at work, lol Chuck

If I took that to work, it would be my last day at work.
I agree about the Petoskey stone knife being too soft, but they sure do look nice.

Rob sent me a petoskys and I attempting hand polishing with sand paper. I am doing it while war ching TV. It's progressing but now I am 5hinking of taking the trim saw and cutting it into two matching halves. I think it would make a very nice fridge magnet set! I like rocks displayed as usable items.
