Gotta like petrified attacks woodman. Probably more of a challenge to find them in wood. Where is that worm ? Shells and coral leave lots of such evidence. Check out this tumble polished pet oyster for example. Sponge borings: A large percentage of the pet oysters found at this site have sponge damage

Neat! Is that Opalised wood? It seems to more of an agate. I tried chipping it and it did not chip easily like the opalized wood I have. Also it is pretty heavy for its size.

About a quarter of the coral I saw from one river is riddled with clam borings. Similar boring clams exist today. I believe they kill the coral. I have yet to saw a coral and find one of these clams imbedded and petrified. A clam having a higher likelihood of being petrified than other more fleshy organisms. But no such luck. This is a coral, and the two tapered holes are the terminus long borings. When will a clam be found ?
