Hi. I'm making a small charcoal forge for melting aluminum for molding, lead, other low temp metals and need to come up with the melting pot. Does anyone have any old, used empty fire extinguishers they no longer need? I'm looking for a free empty that I can cut down to 9 inches and use the steel tank as a cupel. Or anyone have any 3 to 3.5 inch diameter x 9 to 10 inch length sealed on one end steel tank "cups" that would work? Thanks, Phil

Try finding a local company that maintains and charges commercial fire extinguishers. They always have out of date units.
I'd hate to think of the postage for something like that and it's probably not even legal to ship.

Too small. I need 3 - 3.5 inch dia by 9 or 10 inch deep. Must be able to fit a soda can inside and also pick it up using channel lock pliers. Thanks!

Large #10 steel can (ie., coffee can), and homemade refractory lining.

Thanks. Did you note that they don't put their location on any of their pages? I'll try and find them.

had a brainstorm last night while in and out sleeping. Those cheap propane tanks are the same size.... just need to purge one before I cut it down.... Thanks all!

If you decide you need the extinguisher, let me know. I have an empty one in the garage!

Go to the nearest store/public building, anywhere extinguishers get inspected and call the number on the tag. Most extinguisher companies have tons of old ones that are only worth scrap value. Trade em for a cab' or something else cool.

I can't believe this is still going 3 weeks later. There were several posts o how to find a used one, but if that's TOO much trouble, go to Home Depot and buy a new one and let the stuff out. That would be cheaper than trying to ship one. Here ya go... www.homedepot.com/p/Kidde-5-B-C-Fire-Extinguisher-21005944N/2057534403.25 inches wide and almost 11 inches tall. EXACTLY within your required specifications. $12.88criminy...

Remember that big bunch of rhyolite you sent me ?
pretty sure I have 1/8 wall 3 inch pipe. Not sure about 3.5 inch. I can weld a plate on to the bottom of it. then I will send it to you.
Send me exactly what you want and let's see if I can get it right.
I am an engineer so make it complicated.
the pipe is sprinkler pipe. Like the king that goes into the ceiling of industrial bldgs. It is lighter than schedule 40 pipe, nice to handle.
