this is pretty cool. Modern day coral and also some shelled critters are made of aragonite depending on the depth they are in. Both aragonite and calcite are similar. The heat they form in is the main reason they are differently shaped from each other. Pretty interesting stuff if you look into it. This is 5 lbs. This peice was once part of Tom Helfrich collection. He had a big collection of dino bone. Buff Billings bought the Tom Helfrich estate. He just recently passed away this last week at 82 years old. He was very well known gembone dealer for many years. He was always at Quartzsite and other big rock shows for many years selling. A friend of mine about a month ago went and visited him and bought remaining dino bone he had. Aragonite in dino bone is something I haven't seen before. here is Buff this year at Quartzite and at his home about a month ago. here is the aragonite bone... way too much sun in these photos.lol I know.

Fascinating pieces of dino bone, and have not seen aragonite in dino bone! Pretty wild how the cell structures appear in the first photo (with outer cell (?) structure). I'm glad your friend purchased some of the famous remaining collection and thank you for showing the aragonite bone to us. Is the long crystal in your 3rd photo aragonite, bhiatt?
