I have very little experience cutting dino bone but I got a nice 8 pound piece on ebay awhile ago and just got around to cutting on it. Every piece has a distinctive shimmer almost metallic looking. I guess I am wondering if this is odd or common and if it tells anything about the specimen at all? Heres a video off my phone to try to show how light reflects on the dry slab s1183.photobucket.com/user/drummondislandrocks/media/dino%20bone%20slabs/IMG_1173_zpshm2pwe8p.mp4.htmlAnd this is a photo of the slab dry This slab had s small red section. Wish there was more red but just one little spot. Hopefully bhiatt can help shed a light on it. Chuck

Very, very cool! So weird, too, because I just dopped a scrap of bone I have that looks like it, too, has some hematite or pyrite. I can't wait to cab it- probably today. I'll post when I am done. I hope it cabs as cool as it looks now. -- I also hope that since you have that piece slabbed that you go ahead and make a couple cabs.

Thanks! Hematite would be a great explanation for what I am seeing. I just did not know enough to know what is possible in bone. Looking forward to getting one cabbed soon. Chuck
