The Perseids are a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Swift–Tuttle. The Perseids are so called because the point from which they appear to come, called the radiant, lies in the constellation Perseus.

Yep, and I hope to have a front seat window to it. Will be in the air all night tomorrow first flying north to Beijing, and then flying west till dawn to Vienna. Hope to be able to see a few coming in.

Great, thanks for posting the heads up. I enjoy a meteor shower especially when there are lots of them to see.

great post 1dave...saw a couple dozen from the hottub in the wee hours this morning....interestingly our local news called for the peak viewing to be on the 14th and 15th. We will be camping this weekend and hope for a killer show. Cheers

Woke a 4AM this morning - fairly normal, but I went outside and looked at Perseus for a half hour. I saw 7 bright ones and perhaps a dozen dim ones. Around 4:15 a really bright meteor came from the south and zipped across the whole sky before disappearing off to the north. My job here is done, back to bed.

Saw a couple Wed and Thursday early AM,I wake at 4 AM and stood outside while the dog was busy... just a few minutes each time and saw 2 each morning. clouds moving in, Sat and Sun are supposed to be clear here, may have a better opportunity to see more, non peak, than we could the other day. Shower will go on for a while yet, just not peak viewing any more.

I was kinda disappointed. I'm up at 330am most everyday and drive in to work. So far only seen sats going by and two meteors. Cloud and rain moving in, so much for that.
