Take a "Virtual" ride! The toggle button to move your head around is in the top left corner. Thanks for flying with RTH airlines, and have a safe flight.

My Dad was a fighter pilot and retired a Squadron Commander. He flew 3-4 fighter jets too, but the F4 Corsair was the bitchenest plane he ever flew. Very tricky to fly but #1 stunt machine he ever flew. Dog fight supreme. ah, video protected, must click Youtube to watch it. "The aircraft performed well against the best Japanese opponents with a claimed 12:1 kill ratio against Mitsubishi A6M and 6:1 against the Nakajima Ki-84, Kawanishi N1K-J and Mitsubishi J2M combined during the last year of the war." 2000 HP daul bank 18 cylinder supercharged Pratt rotary

The problem w/that plane was getting it started. Radials get oil in the lower cylinders. However, once started it was wicked. When Dad retired he was bored so he bought a Pitts. An insane stunt machine. Mom threatened divorce if he did not sell it.

Thats one thing I wish I had, pilots license. Played around with the RC version of the Pitts plane. That sucker responds on a dime when it comes to stunts. We have the Heritage museum here. I get spoiled and see a lot of vintage planes buzzing above.

I get spoiled and see a lot of vintage planes buzzing above. Lot of air shows up your way. Nice clean air, full of oxygen, dry and cool. Perfect enviro. Dad did RC, but had a hard time untraining himself to operate controls when airplane was headed toward him. Old habits. Mom made him sell the Pitts because me and my brother were being influenced to be dare devils. Thinking she had Dad insured. She was correct and too late. Seed planted. Biplane structure compact, structurally strong and lots of wing in a small distance from fuselage. Pitts wicked for that reason. Dial in the reflexes, it will do whatever you tell it to.

jamesp, HaHaHa I found that out trying to fly a 3 ft heli I have, reverse the controls. Broke a few blades until I got the hang of it. Did your Dad ever get you guys any hands on time at the helm? To bad Mom was so against it , a lot of career doors it could of opened if your an Adrenalin junky . I spent 10 years as a kid growing up on the Primrose bombing range in Cold lake. Spent a lot of time watching a variety of fighter jets and planes from around the globe, never did grow old and bored of it. Think I mentioned this before, purchased a approx 4 ft wing span RC plane a few years back, good little stunt plane, big enough to take a small animal for a ride...just kiddin with the animals. Until I saw these turbine RC ones. Costly little toys when I looked into one. This is something I would like to get my hands on. Friggen little missile. Wife wont let me, says i have enough toys to play with. Never enough toys.

The sky is not big enough for that rocket. If the camera can not pan fast enough it is super fast. Nothing like the sound of a jet engine spooling up. Wonder how fast spiritstone ?

From what I was reading 366 mph. Turbines, love the sound of its power. 20 years ago me and my oldest built a rocket from a kit. Decided to modify it and turned it into 3 stages, stood 4 ft tall. Went way out in the bush and launched it one day. This puppy went off with a bang, hit close to cloud level then the second stage punched in. and thats all i can tell you, it was the last time we saw it. Not sure if the third stage fired or not? Placed a name and number on it if found. Never heard a thing. Hahaha.

I was guessing 400 mph. Good eyes and reflexes for that one. Love the launch ramp. compact and simple looking rig.

(Big) boys and their toys. That thing is scary fast! I would hope he has some really good insurance for that?
Here's my kind of toy (not required to break Mach 1). This one could actually be useful!
$1000 camera drone.
Cool controls, like the "follow" command.
Lily was born in the basement of a UC Berkeley robotics lab, figures. (Gotta love those geeks!)
Oops, had a link to the wrong site. Here's the link corrected, so you can get the specs, etc. Pre-order before 8/15/15 for $719 including shipping. New orders will ship May 2016.

Awesome! On the Fourth of July, there are fireworks shot off from the swap meet parking lot a few blocks away. Every year, we sit in our front yard and watch them. This year, there were TWO drones up in the sky capturing the fireworks. When I saw the first one, I said, "Look, a drone!" I mentioned that it was hovering, not moving. My dad was sure it was a small plane coming directly towards us. When it started making erratic turns, rapidly changing elevation and instantaneously reversing direction, THEN they believed me. (Or maybe it was aliens, enjoying the fireworks? ) When the second one arrived on scene, we were nonplussed. They will become commonplace in the near future. The problem I see is when drone operators want to get footage of a catastrophe, like a wildfire, and they get in the way of firefighters. Twice recently fire retardant drops from aircraft had to be halted because of drones flying in the area. There needs to be severe consequences for these idiots that interfere with emergency personnel. I hope it doesn't take a plane crash to get laws quickly in place.

For you all you suthenahs interested in the ol' war birds, this coming to Atlanta in September:
atlantawarbirdweekend.com/
Click link for more info. Not an airshow, but a warbird display, aircraft rides, and history education event.
Mark your calendar, not an event you want to miss. Don't forget to take your camera!
ETA - Y'all may be interested in the story of the CAF, the group responsible for preserving and showing these old planes. I had wondered about the name change from "Confederate" to "Commemorative" Air Force, but found they had changed it in 2002:
Info on CAF from Wiki.
The CAF puts on these displays here at a small local airport, Gillespie Field, in El Cajon. I've seen the "This is a CAF aviator..." on the pilot's and crew's flight jackets, got a kick out of it! I have a lot of photos taken of the old planes, unfortunately, they are not digital! Have been going to air shows for a number of years.
But I will confess to being ignorant about the names of the different types of planes. Went fishing in San Diego Bay yesterday, and a squadron of four smaller planes - Mustangs, maybe? - and then a bomber that looked something like this a B25 followed the others, turned around and made a pass going the other way. Awesome! San Diego is full of aviation history.
