I bought a Covington two headed sphere maker at an auction for $125. Couldn't pass it up for that price. Problem is I don't have a clue how to run it. Anyone have advice on how to get started. I downloaded Covington manual from their site, but their instructions are not very detailed. Thanks in advance.

Is there a dish that goes under the stone? A water/grit slurry goes in there and that material is what gives the grinding action to the set up. Either that way or an automated grit dripper or spoon feed grit. Were there any grinding cups with it? Different sizes? If you could manage to post some photos we could tell yo more. To post photos you need a Photobucket or Flicker account. And welcome t the board. Are you into rocks/lapidary? Or is this purchase your first step into the hobby?

First off I am sort of new to the lapidary world, little over a year now. I have been cutting rock with 16" slab saw and small trim saw. Lots of tumbling and doing some wire wrapping. Been buying and hunting different rock and just love the beauty of some of the stones. Will try to add some photos of sphere machine. Thanks for any help. s24.photobucket.com/user/mike3158/library/?sort=3&page=1

You have found a great machine for a great price. If you ever want to double your money give me a call. Looks like they have fabricated an automatic grit drip. Does the motor on top turn slow and does it have a cam that temporarily opens a valve to let a small amount of grit through? That should be what you have. I have never used the drip system as I went straight to diamond cups and pads so maybe somebody can chime in to tell if you use dry grit or a slurry with this. It would certainly need to have water on it as well.

Thanks for your response I new it was a good buy. It has a medical bag for the drip and the motor runs a small drill bit to pull out the grit. So if a guy gets diamond cups and pads you don't need grit? If I use the pan do I angle the cups all the way down until the rock touches pan? How much grit and water? Is the pan suppose to turn, has a switch but seems like nothing happens? Not sure of cup sizes I need to use etc,etc...
