Hi everyone!
I'm a total newbie when it comes to rocks, so I'm here to read and learn from all your wise rockhounds.
I've recently been gifted a rather large collection from a family member who collected his entire life. This sparked a new interest in a hobby!
Located in Bakersfield, I'm near to a plethora of great rockhounding areas. Mostly located East of me. I went on my first mini rockhounding trip with my fiance to Gem Hill in Rosamond. I'm sure we overlooked a ton of stuff, but we went to just check it out and surface collect a few cool looking pieces.
Anyways, I'm just here to say hello! And if anyone has any tips on good newbie spots near to me, I'd be really grateful.
See ya around!
McKenzie

Welcome McKenzie,
Yes, you have a lot of great areas to rockhound all around you in all directions. Post some pics of some of your collection if you get a chance.

Hi and thanks vegasjames!
I will definitely post photos when I get home. I still have a 5 gallon bucket of thundereggs and geodes left to pickup at the home of my gifter.
He also gave me some cutting machines. They're a bit old and worn down, but I'm sure with some TLC they'll be running again.
I ended up buying a Lortone 33B tumbler and love that little guy. I already have a second one on my wishlist!

Welcome to the forum. Who did you inherit from? I knew many of the old timers in Bakersfield club from our tail gate show days.

It's my fiance's grandpa, Warren Rose. I'm not sure how active he was in local clubs, but he loves to travel and ended up with quite a few items.

By the way, have you two been up to Shark Tooth Hill? That's another great place you have near by.

Welcome aboard McKenzie. --- Bakersfield ? Where to hunt ? LOL, just take any road out into the desert. Park & walk up a dry wash. Nice stuff is everywhere around there. Just don't pick up any of those buzzing sticks.
Don. --- Ex Riverside guy.

Old lapidary equipment can be like old wine. Some is bad, but some is very very good so evaluate it carefully. Tom
