It helps to know a little of his back story. He was bitten by a tick and got Lyme's disease that went misdiagnosed for quite a while. During that period doctors treated him with drugs that totally messed him up, including inducing psychotic events and giving him autoimmune deficiency. That's what he's referring to. He's now in Canada receiving treatment for the Lyme's disease which included stem cell treatment that got him back up on his feet.

He's a very talented young man. Started out busking on the streets. Check his YouTube page @renmakesmusic for a video of him busking I Shot the Sheriff. It was really good. Also, I just watched a 2 hour interview with him on @black Pegasus which was amazingly good. I took a couple of breaks (yeah, it's long), but I came away from it with even more respect for him. He is thoughtful and intelligent and I think we'll be seeing a lot more of him in the future.

ETA: He did this as a one take - no editing. He has a little mike clipped on and his guitar is plugged in. He did it 3 times and they picked this one to publish.
