I have not been posting too many of my mixed rock tumbles but this batch had some of Jugglerguy's epidote/unakite in it so I thought I would take some photos. I Think the epidote/unakite would have been a little better if ran by itself and with a higher percentage of small filler so they may go for another ride in the loto Chuck

Unakite looking great. Rob sent some, looks better in hand.
Looks like fordite in there. surprised it would tumble well.

Its all one hardness so no undercutting and it polishes easily. I figured it was worth a try rather then tossing the saw scraps on a material that is priced by the gram. I have a handful of small tumbled pieces now and could probably drill small holes in them to sell for beads if I really get desperate for grit money, lol Chuck

Chuck I been missing your tumbles! Those look great! I tumble some of Robs using your formula and the came out grest! It was a very mixed up batch too. I did have about a third ceramics and or very small smalls of mixed stuff that has ground down to BB size.

I did have about a third ceramics and or very small smalls of mixed stuff that has ground down to BB size. I would say this load only had about twenty percent ceramic and the epidote had some fairly large flat sides so to get the best results possible I would rerun it at fifty percent small ceramics. chuck

I think the epidote looks good, but maybe it doesn't look as good in person. I'm really surprised that Fordite tumbles at all. I thought it would be pretty soft.

The epidote actually looks better in person. those were real quick photos on my kitchen counter. I prefer taking them outside in the shade on a sunny day when possible. The fordite scraps even tumble in my 46/70 for at least a week. I was pretty shocked it held up the first time I tried it but figured it was scrap so nothing to lose. seems to hold up just fine. chuck

When sand blasting words and images in granite, rubber is used for a template. Fordite may be resilient to abrasives as well. Tumbler barrels made out of plastics and rubber... Vehicles used in sandy areas need paint that would resist sand blasting, never thought about that.

if fordite is so resistant to abrasion given its hardness, I wonder if it would hold up if made into a ring. It may be softer, but tough if you know what I mean.

good question. I have made a handful of pandora style bracelet beads with Fordite and that has work well. They are about 9/16 O.D. with a 3/16 hole drilled through the center. I think a ring would be cool.

Nice batch and great variety. I like the piece right under the fordite.
If it's 9-27 though, I have missed my wife's birthday and I'm in a world of trouble!

That piece you mentioned was a scrap from a really nice piece of regency rose agate. Wish I had more of that stuff. Chuck
