Curious? Look at Ancestry.com Their "Sample chart" is for the Smiths. I knew my family came from Lanarkshire and Douglasshire where they defended Douglas Castle, known as "Castle Dangerous" in Sir Walter Scott's novel. It was surprising to find how few Crosby's there were. You can look at the info from each census! We came to the US in 1871 - to Almy Wyoming - which was part of Utah back then.

1dave, any relation to a certain famous David Crosby? Oh wait, that should be in the music thread, lol. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young a favorite band of mine back in the day, even now. Roots on my dad's side go back to Sweden, all four of his grandparents immigrated from there. Guess that makes me third generation Swedish on his side. Mom's side a bit more complicated, have been in this country for a long time. A geneology of the Wittman family has been pursued by one of my relatives. Kind of hard to track back too many generations, as her paternal grandfather was an indentured man that took on the name of his boss. Have no idea what his original name was. But, according to mom, there is some English, German, Dutch, Welch and some Swedish blood in there, so guess that makes me over 50% Swedish, with a lot of Heinz 57 thrown in. Now that you've brought this up, will have to get with my sister and look this up again.

Ahhhh..... a subject close to my heart. Been on Ancestry since the start and many, many others. I have hired professionals in certain areas for brick walls. I have traveled 100's of miles to research. I have spent 1000s to buy first hand research.
My mother's family have been here since abt 1630. She is a native New Englander. Her people came into Charlestown, MA (Charlestown was the "capital" then, not Boston. Boston didn't happen until Charlestown was burned out during King Phillip's Indian War). That line and others in her tree were very tried and true Patriots. I can prove 15 Revolutionary ancestors in my tree between Mom and Dad's families. Dad's dad's family came from Germany 1885. He was a Reverend sent over to administer to the German speakers on the Plains. Dad's mom's family had been here since Colonial times, too. They were early "Planters" in NY.
I am German, Scotch-Irish (which I am very proud of), Irish, Welch and English.

Born in the Ghetto of Oakland, Commiefornia. Hixsons ( Dad's side) came over from Great Britain to New York supposedly from Devonshire in the late 1600's. Split into three branches most settled to farm in Kentucky and Tennessee ( town called Hixson, Tenn). One group went to the west to try unsucessfully, to farm in Texas and California ( Po folks branch=mine *L*) Other branch, we call the "pirate" branch went to southern California as traders and smugglers on the Pacific coast. Mom's side Scots, Dutch and Osage Indian. All farmers on that side that came over in the 1800's I think. Family pics on that side show some folks wearing kilties in Texas and Oklahoma....Mel

I have a copy of a genealogy put together bu my paternal grandmothers side, read it once, interesting info about dead people, but living in the now has been more of a focus for me. Swedish/German, possibly some Indian but impossible to know so I won't make it up like a senator might...

I did lots of geneaology when my kids were little and there was no internet. A lot more difficult in those days. Got back to Native Americans in New York ( before it was New York) on my mothers' dad's side, Ancestors in Spanish American war, both sides of the Civil War, Revolutionary war. A little of everything else except Italian and Asian in my background, mostly European descent. one of my cousins did the ancestral DNA sampling that is available now plus a 6 month class explaining it, Found out he is 3% Neanderthal... heh, I thought it might have been more than that to look at him.

Another interesting topic, you can pick some good ones for sure. I've got several folks in the family that ran down a lot of the tree on both sides. One lady came from Germany and stayed with my parents while going through local cemeteries for info. She tracked down the Lubben part quite a ways. The other side is half German half Swedish. Somehow I wasn't surprised to find out the the Aldi stores here are named Hofer over there. I've got frugal in my veins. That makes me 3/4 stubborn and cheap with 1/4 sweet and sardine loving. Close enough.
I got the wife one of those DNA tests for Christmas last year (don't judge ladies, she asked!) turns out her Hispanic heritage is 50% native to central/southern America's and 50% everything from spanish, north african, middle eastern, german, and Jewish. It was pretty interesting.

Then I married your aunt. Now I am related to everyone!" When I was a kid everyone asked "Are you related to Bing?" Then came his sons - Bob Crosby and the Bobcats, and David Crosby With ------- After being asked thousands of times my automatic response became "I never stole a Nash."
